Standard Procedure

  Vanessa woke up that morning and wiped the sleep from her eyes. the little blonde yawned and stretched, she didn’t know if she had the energy to be cheerful for other people today- the cheerfulness was a show that she put on for the benefit of others these days. On the inside she felt like a broken wind-up doll, but no one needed to know that, even if they knew- would they care. She ran her hand through her mess of blonde bed head- she wasn’t going to give into this,  she wasn’t going to be one of those people. She took a deep breath and listened to the sounds of the city, somewhere kids were picking snow ball fights, somewhere people were falling in love, somewhere  friends were talking about old times. She could do this, she set a foot out of bed when brought Lincoln into the room like clock work, he jumped up on the bed and meowed at her expectantly…..”I know, I know.” she petted the man in her life behind his ears before heading down to the kitchen to feed him.

  Now clothed, groomed and ready to face the day she put her hair up in a pony tail.” Maybe I just need to change things up a little link, they’re having some new classes down at the gym. Maybe I should check it out?”  Lincoln had no comment. He gave her a nuzzle and she told him she would be home later.

Vanessa had been in the beginner’s pilates class for ten minutes when the lights went out. No one could understand what was happening and more unnerving armed guards  came bustling into the room. 

" There has been a chemical leak in the building but there is no reason to be alarmed we just ask that you follow us in an orderly fashion to the basement until we contain the spill. Its just standard procedure."  The man who seemed to be in command ordered.

Vanessa quietly followed everyone else being herded downstairs. She didn’t believe one word the guard had told them, she knew Andrea and she knew enough about Avery’s safety protocols to believe him.  She didn’t know what this was all about but she toyed with the notion of slipping out when no one was paying attention, with so many people, they couldn’t watch everyone at all times now could they?

Exercise is for the Weak || Self Para

Jeremy wiped a hand across his forehead as he stepped off of the treadmill. He always loved the tingle he got after a satisfying run, but feeling like his throat was made of sandpaper was one of the things he could do without. Pulling out his water bottle, he glanced at the clock mounted on the wall. 

"2:57," he thought to himself. "I can probably grab a shower and be out of here by 3:30." Drinking deeply from his water bottle, he heard the P.A. system crackle to life. The bartender capped his drink and listened.

"Would all CitySpire patrons make their way down to the basement. Thank you for your cooperation." The message continued to play on a loop. Jeremy only rolled his eyes. Gathering his things, he began to move toward the locker rooms when a burly looking guard stopped him.

"Sir, all patrons need to move to the basement," he said in a firm tone. Jeremy offered the man a smile, holding his hands up in a placating manner.

"I understand that, sir," he replied slowly. "But you see I'm in sweaty old gym shorts and a wife beater. I was hoping to grab at least a change of-"

"Son, I wouldn't care if you were in a damn dress. You still need to go to the basement," the man said. "Now."

Swallowing the flash of anger he felt at being dismissed so callously, Jeremy grit his teeth and gave the other man a curt, angry smile. "Will do, officer," he said shortly. "Once I get my personal belongings from the locker room. I have a right to-"

"Sir, if you're going to stir up trouble, I will be forced to take you into custody."

"Really? It would literally take me 30 seconds just to- Okay. Fine. No trouble, of course not. I'm on my way, see? Walking away," Jeremy huffed, turning toward the stairs.

"Asshole," he muttered as he made his way down. Hopefully whatever was causing the trouble would clear up soon. He really needed a shower.

Worst Behavior || Self Para

For a few days now, Lillie hadn't been herself. Missing every opportunity to head back home, the red head often found herself wandering over to Cash's apartment. The mere thought of being alone nipped and tugged at her bare flesh. 

The red head was engulfed in her thoughts, the announcement over head nearly causing her to cringe the more she understood. She couldn't catch a break - so why the hell would she catch one now? 

The crowds that filled City Spire shuffled towards the direction at a quick pace, the echoes of authoritative tones making sure that people had cooperated. Though, Lillie was one that paid no mind to them.

"Ma'am, you're going the wrong way." Before the red head could comprehend his words, a hand had latched onto her shoulder. "Ma'am, I said you're going the wrong way."

"I know what you said." She spat, her feet still shuffling away from the crowds. Folding her arms, Lillie quickened her pace, the guard growling for her to cooperate.  

Before the red head could make it any further, two men had gripped onto her lanky arms. "Ma'am, you're coming with us." 

"No, just - god damn it, get off of me!" The red head retorted sharply, her frame writhing to free from their grip. Though it was in her best interest to remain silent, Lillie kept prodding at them with harsh vocals. 

It was in Lillie's nature to cause a scene - but surely not like this. As the men shoved her in the other direction, hushed tones wafted hastily through the air, every single pair of eyes on her.

Helping Hand || Reaper

The halls had been quiet for at least five minutes before April peered out from under her desk. Through the glass walls she could tell that there was no one else in National Investments. Hopefully they had given up and she could make the long hike up thirty flights of stairs back up to her apartment. 

Slipping her heels off, she quietly put them in the bottom drawer of her desk and pulled out the spare flats she kept in there. Making her way towards the front of the company, April pulled the door open and looked both ways down the hall before slipping out and taking off toward the stairwell. 

As she passed the elevator, she saw someone struggling, their legs pretty much being the only thing visible. April was about to just leave him there and head to the stairs when she heard the familiar voice cursing. 

"Reece?" She whispered as she walked closer. "What the hell?"

Questions || Sakura + Lana

Nobody who had been herded into CitySpire's basement had been at all pleased with their situation, but Lana could see it was hitting some harder than others. At few individuals were struggling not to cry, and at least two others had to be helped for asthma attacks. The rest were just torn down and frustrated, like the one girl she had been watching for a while. The guards didn't seem to want to give her the light of day. Seeing as nobody else was willing to offer support, Lana took it upon herself to approach the other young woman.

"These uniforms sure give them a sense of authority, huh? For a bunch of rent-a-cops. Are you alright?"

Suds & Strategies || Liligan

Vincent's fingers pressed into the flesh around her hips, his lips ghosting over her ear. "Do you understand my strategy now love?" His body pressed against hers, backing Violet up against the tile of the shower harder than was necessary. He pulled his face back to look at her. He knew that the rest of the clan had been weary of him letting the government strike first, but in the end, it was going to be worth it.

Sakura was no lover of crowded places, but the human clutter was one of the last things on her mind.

"What's- is it just this building? Cityspire? Do you-- do you know what's happening outside are things alright outside-"

Trouble seeing. Trouble breathing, trouble keeping calm. Lights dark, room heavy with confusion and the air was just as thick. And why were they all herded into here, was it unsafe outside? What was happening? What could be happening, what was so wrong that--

She tapped a random on the shoulder. "Do you know, uh, what'll happen with the hospitals," she said breathlessly, "by, any-chance?" Someone bumped into her. She stumbled forward. Her father was currently in relapse. The stranger didn't know anything. Dammit, today's workout had been going well. The Coliseum hadn't been overly busy either -- what an inconvenience this was indeed...and what the hell did they mean by a security breach-

She whirled around, wriggled her way past a few bodies. Found a new stranger's shoulder.

"Excuse me, are they-"

Pushed aside. Nearly fell over.

"Why are we- -- hello? Do you -- uh--"

Sakura was ignored again.

She gulped and felt very small.

Clenched her fists.

"Excuse me, sir," she began firmly-

"Look, we all know as much as you do, kid-"

The man hurried away. He had very long eyelashes, she'd noticed.

She noticed she was sweating and, frustrated, she slunk through the room to press her back against the wall. Checked her watch. Wondered how long she'd be here, how long it'd be until there were answers. Tried to remember if she'd fed the cat. Scratched the side of her neck. 

Sakura slid to a sitting position. Her jacket against the wall made a shhhhh sound. A meek and accidental urge to hush -- even her clothing wasn't keen on the chaos, it seemed.

She brought her knees to her chest. Looked around like some pathetic, scared animal. Then lowered her chin and pretended to be asleep.

Lights Out || Self Para

Creatures of the night, that's what Vincent and Violet had become since taking up residence in New York. The club scene was lucrative but it caused them to be up all night and sleep all day for the most part. He couldn't complain though, as long as their plan continued to fall into place. 

Vincent rolled over in bed, squinting at the afternoon light that was streaming in through the crack in the dark curtains that hung on the window. His hand instinctively reached across the mattress for Violet, but she wasn't there. He closed his eyes, and let his senses take over. He could hear her feet padding against the floor below him, she was heading toward the kitchen. With a smile, he turned back over to face away from the window and drifted off back to sleep. 

He awoke again when he heard her voice, accompanied by the sound of another giving instructions. So today was the day. This was was what they had spent the last two weeks preparing for. The FMID was making their move. Fools, he thought as he pushed himself up from the bed and finally opened the curtains. Looking down he could see the streets already being blocked off, the crowd starting the build at the perimeter. 

The government thugs would soon be going floor by floor to try and clear everyone out and down into the basement. They would be very surprised when they learned they couldn't reach his penthouse with their keycards and his own human drones would bar their entrance through the stairwells. While he may not have liked technology, it didn't mean he wouldn't use it to his advantage. Reprogramming the elevator's computer had been an hour's work at best and it left him with the security that no one could reach his floors without his permission.

Walking into the bathroom, he pulled the glass door open and slipped into the shower with Violet. "Today we change the course of humanity."
