Summary: Sara let out an annoyed sigh, “Rip, you realise for someone with not much time to explain you’re talking a lot and not getting to the point.”
Author’s Note: Day 5: Fix-It – Set right what once went wrong, re-write those episodes to make them better, fix those broken characters and generally turn Legends of Tomorrow into the show it should be.
I have added a missing scene to the beginning and end of Season 3 to make Rip’s story for the season make a little more sense.
*********************************************
Rip stood outside the room and took a long slow deep breath before he opened the door to where the team were waiting.
“Rip, what the…” Sara started, trailing off when he held up his hand.
He closed the door, activating the lock and waited.
“You have privacy, Director Hunter,” Gideon spoke up.
Nodding Rip looked at the assembled group, saddened that the plans he had made, all the brilliant ideas he had for the people who had proved themselves so much in two short years would never come to fruition.
“Alright,” he said, “We have to do this fast because the privacy will only be able to be on for so long and you have a mission.”
Sara shook her head, “What the hell are you talking about? You just broke up the team and took the ship.”
“I know,” Rip replied, holding up his hands to stop the barrage of yelling that was about to happen, “There was a reason.”
“Talk fast,” Mick snarled from his position leaning against the wall a bottle of beer in his hand. Rip briefly wondered where the bottle had come from, before ignoring it.
Taking another deep breath Rip pushed a hand through his hair, currently shorter than it had ever been in his life and continued.
“When we crossed our own timestream,” Rip said, “We broke time and released a Time Demon.”
Mick spat out his beer, “What?”
“What does that mean?” Ray asked.
“It means we’re doomed, Haircut,” Mick told him.
“Not exactly,” Rip spoke up, taking control of the conversation again, “By creating the Bureau I had to learn a whole new language of politics,” he shuddered, “In order to build the organisation I needed people and unfortunately the fact I cannot give them too much information regarding myself or the Time Masters has always been an issue.”
“We understand that frustration,” Jax said.
Shaking his head Rip reminded them, “There are still time pirates out there who if they knew too much about my past then they could try to remove me, and everything would go to hell.”
“Even more than it already has?” Sara asked.
“Yes,” Rip said before moving the conversation back to its original thread, “Anyway Director Bennett, who I had no choice in, is not my biggest fan and would lose his mind if he knew I was recruiting you all to do this.”
Sara let out an annoyed sigh, “Rip, you realise for someone with not much time to explain you’re talking a lot and not getting to the point.”
He winced and shook himself, “Sorry. Alright the basics are, we broke time, we released a time demon and the people I currently work with don’t believe in the threat because they don’t understand it,” Rip sighed, “The agents are not trained to think outside the box like you all door to be more accurate to smash then set fire to the box.”
“So, we stop it,” Nate said demanding, “Give us the ship back.”
“I can’t,” Rip told him, “At least not now.”
Martin stepped forward, “You’re not making much sense, Cap…Mr Hunter.”
“It is now Director Hunter,” Gideon spoke up making Rip smile slightly.
Nodding Rip took a quick breath, “Alright, I do have a plan. You are all going to leave here and go back to your lives for a few months. You will get the worst possible jobs that if you had any intention of making a life here you would never go to. Then in a few months there will be a way for you to come and steal the Waverider.”
“Steal the Waverider?” Sara demanded, “Like Gideon would ever choose us over you. We’ve had that discussion before.”
Rip shrugged but continued without answering her, “The only catch with all of this is you won’t remember the plan.”
“Why?” Jax, Nate and Ray demanded.
Wincing Rip replied, “Because out of all of you, Sara is the only one I know can keep a secret longer than a few days.” He turned to the other woman in the room, “No offence, Miss Jiwe but I don’t know you that well yet to know if you could or not.”
Amaya gave a slight nod.
“So,” Sara said softly, “Your plan is to give us a subconscious order?”
“Suggestion,” Rip corrected her. He sighed shaking his head, “I’m sorry. I had so many plans for you all to join the Bureau and I have tried to work things out so we could do this easier but…”
“Hey,” Sara rested her hand on his arm, “We get it.”
Closing his eyes Rip took a final deep breath, “Once I do this, we’ll be at odds until this is finished. I will do my best to protect you from the others in the Bureau, but you will be on your own most of the time.”
“Which is why you’re letting Gideon come with us.” Jax said softly.
Rip nodded, “She’ll protect you for me.”
“Once this ends,” Ray said, “Will we remember this conversation?”
“As soon as I say a phrase that I have set up,” Rip said, “It will remove the hypnosis and we can get back to the business of protecting time again properly.”
Sara stood, arms folded and a thoughtful look on her face, “I don’t think I like that, if I’m understanding you right, you’re putting us on opposite sides.”
“Same side,” Rip replied, “We’re just having to work it differently.”
“It leaves you on your own,” Jax said.
“Which isn’t a good place for you,” Martin noted.
“Especially if you let us take Gideon,” Ray added.
Rip sighed, his head dropping for a minute before he looked up at them again, “I have spent years going over this and this is the only plan that Gideon rated under a fifty-percentage chance of failure.”
“Gideon?” Sara called, “Can you confirm?
“Yes,” Gideon’s voice came after a moment, “Director Hunter and I have worked on this problem for a number of years.”
“How?” Jax asked, “We just got here.”
Rip waved away the question, “I took the Waverider back to where I founded the Bureau as I knew I found her then.”
The group all nodded, a few obviously wondering when that had become normal to them.
“We have very little time,” Rip said, “This is the time to decide and if one says no then it’s no from the group.”
Sara turned to the crew, her team…their team who all gave a slight nod before she turned back to Rip.
“Do it.”
*********************************************
“Captain,” Gideon said as Rip carried the Time Core out to face Mallus, “Perhaps now is the time to remove the hypnosis from the team.”
Rip shook his head, “It’s better this way.”
“You always knew,” Gideon accused, “You never intended to remove it. Did you?”
Rip sighed, there was no point hiding it, “No.”
“Why?”
“Because my curse is knowing the future, Gideon,” he reminded her sadly, “And in the annuls of the Time Bureau history are the words, ‘Director Rip Hunter, founder died saving time from Mallus.’”
“Why…”
Rip stopped in the middle of the field, “I’ve always been heading to this moment. The others have lost enough, it’s better they remember things this way. It’ll hurt less.”
“And what of me, Rip?”
“I know you’ll take care of them for me,” Rip whispered, “The way you always took care of me. My Gideon.”
“There is always a chance you will survive, and the history is a lie,” Gideon noted softly.
Rip gave a sad smiled, “Then I know you’ll find me.”
So I thought my blog turned 3 yesterday, but it’s actually today! As a result, I’m now making an obligatory anniversary post. Oddly enough, the day I created this blog, it was snowing like hell and school got canceled for the day. Today, it’s snowing like hell and I don’t have classes today!
I’m definitely more used to this site now than I was three years ago. I’ve fallen into the DC universe these days more often than Marvel, although I still love them both. I got into some new fandoms this year and made some new mutual friends. There’s been less fic that’s come out of me in the past year due to real life pressures, but I’ve found a substitute to make content for fandoms in the form of moodboards. I love moodboards so much.
A few personal shoutouts here:
@incendiaglacies- I think we talk almost every day and I love every conversation. We created the amazing Roommates Universe that gives me so much life to write. Plus all the Timeship AUs we talk about are fun to imagine and board, as well as anything Jonara.
@somebodyhelpthenotdeadfreds and @marywisdom, I have to do you two together because of the Hannibal AU. To the former, I never thought I’d get to know you and I still can’t believe we chat because you’re an epic writer and a phenomenal person. Plus you got me back into watching Hell’s Kitchen. And to the latter, you put up with all my ramblings, which really says something. You were the one who inspired me to write The Next Firestorm series. Honestly, both of you are a fountain of brilliance and I’m lucky to know you.
@fezwearingjellybananas, you’re probably my oldest friend on here and I’m sorry that I’m a terrible friend most of the time (especially in the collab). But I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving your stories. You are seriously a genius. Plus I love that someone else in fandom gets knitting.
@taleasoldastime-andspace- Wastebasket buddy! I love that we’re still keeping the theory alive as much as we can. You are a creative genius who deserves more recognition. Your humor is excellent, and even though I don’t know much about LOTR, I still catch the references and giggle over them.
@locitarose, @newyorkcitydreaming, @flabbergabst, @stillthewordgirl, @dragonydreams, @freyreh, and @thoughtsandlife23- I’ll never get bored of tossing ideas around with you guys. I’m so happy that I got to meet you guys. You’re amazing and fantastic and talented writers.
@jewishraypalmer- I’m still floored that you talk to me because you’re such a kickass person who is way cooler than me. #Sciencewivesforever
@misscrazyfangirl321- I love talking about all our ships that are never canon. Your moodboards were what inspired me to try my hand at some. But yours will always be so much better than mine, which makes me happy because i love looking at their beauty.
@ethical-hedonistic-apatheist- You have bombass headcanons that are too good for the world.
@hanorganaas- you are an amazing person to talk and ramble to. I still need to write the Chicken Man sequel for you and hopefully it’ll be epic.
@lostinthespeedforce- It’s always fun to talk about the Arrowverse and Marvel with you and to just trade angst back and forth.
@eternlmisery- even though you no longer watch LoT, I still love to talk about Bughead with you. Hopefully I can one day actually write a Bughead fic for you.
To anyone who I forgot to mention, I’m thankful for all my followers. I love chatting about headcanons and ships and fandoms with you. Thanks for making the past year much better than 2016, and here’s hoping the next year brings on more ships, fics, and boards!
Waverider Book Club - Team!Legends, Captain Canary
Title: Waverider Book Club
Fandom: DC's Legends of Tomorrow
Rating: G
Pairings/Characters: Sara Lance/Leonard Snart, Team Legends
Summary: Between missions, the team of the Waverider has a book club.
Timeline: Early season two, after Amaya officially joins the team.
Word Count: 1,256
Disclaimer: I claim no ownership over these characters. I am merely borrowing them from Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and Phil Klemmer.
Betas: Thank you to angelskuuipo and shanachie_quill for looking this over for me.
Author's Note 1: This came about because I randomly said to the Legends Crew, "Book club on the Waverider. Has this been done?" This is what came out of that discussion and is dedicated to all of you.
Author's Note 2: Leonard didn't die at the Oculus.
After it was agreed that Amaya and Nate would stay on the Waverider for the foreseeable future, Sara gathered the team together in Rip's study.
Once everyone was settled, Sara turned to the new team members. "Okay, now that you're going to be staying for a while, there's something very important we need to discuss."
"Is this where we get the rules of the ship?" Nate asked, a joking tone to his voice.
"Not exactly," Sara said. "We need to know what books you want to recommend for the book club."
"Excuse me?" Amaya exclaimed. "Did you say 'book club'?"
"A book club is a group of people who get together once a month after having all read the same book to discuss it," Ray helpfully supplied.
"I know what a book club is," Amaya said. "I was surprised that you all participated in one. Together."
"Why's that?" Jax asked. "You think we're too dumb to read?"
Nate and Amaya couldn't help glancing at Mick.
"What? I read," he said, offended. Quieter, he added, "Not much else to do in prison."
"It's thoughts like that that actually started the club," Leonard said.
"Now this is a story I've gotta hear," Nate said, making himself comfortable.
"I guess it's kinda my fault," Ray admitted with a blush. "One day, in between missions, I happened upon Leonard reading a collection of Sherlock Holmes novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I'd commented that it seemed out of character for a thief to be reading about the world's smartest detective."
"I asked if he'd ever actually read the stories, and of course he hadn't," Leonard added. "So I challenged him to do so."
"Jax heard us discussing the stories after I finished them," Ray said, picking up the story again.
"I was curious about a book that those two could agree on, so I read it too, and it kinda spread from there," Jax concluded. "Everyone else read it and then we decided to see what other books we all thought we should read."
"We read The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger as Rip's suggestion," Sara said.
"I have not heard of that one, but from what you've told me of him the title sounds fitting," Amaya commented.
"I'm afraid most of the books were probably published after your time," Martin said.
"I'd suggested To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee for Sara--" Jax said, grinning, but was interrupted by Leonard. "To which I asked if he even knew what that book was about."
"No, but it has the words 'kill' and 'bird' in the title," Jax admitted.
"So which book did you pick?" Amaya asked Sara.
Sara smirked. "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith."
"Senseless ruin of a classic," Martin grumbled with a shudder, not for the first time.
"Oh, so it's based on the Jane Austen book?" Amaya asked. "I have read that one."
"So did we," Ray said. "Some members of the team have a thing about zom--"
"Don't say it," Martin cut in.
"My original choice was going to be The Princess Bride by William Goldman, but Leonard beat me to it," Sara said.
"You chose a book with princess in the title?" Amaya asked curiously. "That's not a bit...girly?"
"First of all, it has poison and sword fights and battles of wit. Not. Girly," Leonard defended. "Secondly, it was written after your time, so don't go judging a book by its title. It was a favorite of my sister's and something everyone should read, even if they've already seen the movie." Secretly, Leonard had been happy that he and Sara had chosen the same book, as he enjoyed sharing something with both Sara and his sister; the two most important women in his life.
"I'm curious about what Mick picked," Nate said.
"Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, of course," Mick said, taking a swig from his beer.
"I suppose that shouldn't surprise me, and yet it does," Nate commented.
"Why? It's about fire and not conforming to laws meant to keep you in check," Mick said. "What's not to like?"
"Kendra made us read a love story about a couple that reincarnates called My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares," Sara said, wrinkling her nose. "It was like reading about her life, minus Vandal Savage trying to get in her pants."
"We followed that up with a piece of professional fan fiction," Leonard drawled.
"It wasn't fan fiction," Ray objected, in what sounded like a familiar argument.
"It was a story written about a television show by someone who didn't write for the show," Leonard said. "Sounds like fan fiction to me."
"What was this fan fiction?" Amaya asked.
"The book was The Resurrection Casket by Justin Richards," Ray answered. "It's a novel based on the show Doctor Who, which is about a Time Lord who travels through time in his T.A.R.D.I.S., that is, his spaceship, with his companions, having adventures and stopping alien threats."
"Didn't you destroy the Time Lords?" Nate asked.
"Those were Time Masters," Mick said. "Totally different."
Not wanting to start the familiar fan fiction debate again, Martin offered, "After having met young Bertie, I selected The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells. That was always a favorite of mine."
"I guess that just leaves Jax," Nate said.
"Harry Potter, of course," Jax said, beaming.
"Why of course?" Amaya asked.
"It's the most popular series of my generation," Jax told her.
"About wizards," Stein added.
"Trust me, it's about so much more than wizards," Jax said. "I mean, yeah, they're wizards, but it's about good versus evil, too."
"I admit that I nearly skipped reading it, but Jefferson insisted upon calling me Dumbledore until I gave in. I'm rather glad that I did," he admitted, smiling fondly at Jax, now knowing how much respect and affection his counterpart was conveying by calling him that.
"We were about to start picking a new set of books to read based on our favorite time periods we visited, but now that you're here, we can read your favorites first," Sara said.
"I wanted to read Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton," Mick grumbled.
"No way!" Ray loudly objected. "How can you even suggest that after what that tyrannosaurus rex nearly did to me?"
"Why do you think I want to read it?" Mick responded, smirking. "That or The Crucible by Arthur Miller." He winked at Sara.
Sara smirked. "Been there, done that. My way was much more fun."
"Until you were almost hanged," Nate pointed out.
"Worth it," Sara replied with a shrug. "So what books are you bringing to the group?"
Lightly touching her totem, Amaya said, "I will recommend The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling."
"Les Misérables by Victor Hugo," Nate suggested.
"Like the musical?" Mick asked, frowning.
"It's the novel the musical was based on," Nate confirmed.
"Dude, isn't that like two thousand pages?" Jax spluttered.
Nate nodded. "And worth every single word."
"We'll start with the animal book," Sara decided, "and work our way up to the really long one." Tipping her head towards the ceiling, she said, "Gideon, please print up eight copies of The Jungle Book and Les Misérables."
"They will be waiting in the fabrication room," Gideon answered.
"Woah, your ship can print any book?" Nate asked.
Sara grinned and nodded. "Yup."
"I think I'm in love," Nate mused.
The rest of the team laughed and trudged towards the fabrication room to pick up their new books.
Another year has rolled around, and this blog is now two years old. I almost missed it if I hadn’t gotten the email about it.
Since this blog turned 1, a lot has happened. It’s kind of been the year of the Arrowverse for me in 2016. Legends of Tomorrow ended up consuming me, and I fell in love with all the characters. I loved the Rogue Canary trio, and especially Captain Canary. I absolutely adored the interactions between Sara and Leonard. I remember the hype for Destiny and the CC kiss, how Destiny was my first Legends of Tomorrow episode that I got to watch live, and how it shattered me when I saw it. I was already shaken up from losing Laurel (she deserved so much better), and watching my favorite character sacrifice himself was just...feels.
I definitely got some new shows and ships this year. I had a summer binge watch of Prison Break that has me excited for the revival. I started Gilmore Girls (which I need to get back too). I started Hannibal, and it’s been really interesting, even though I have to go on hiatus of it for the time being. I finally started Brooklyn 99, and I understand the hype! I’ve started the Vampire Diaries (thanks to my friend), and I’m enjoying that. Rogue One, Moana, and Captain America Civil War were some of the most epic movies this year. I’ve fallen in love with the Jarvises, Spiritassassin, Rebelcaptain, Misa, Peraltiago, Westallen (I know, about damn time), Killervibe, Sanvers, MonWinn, Atomwave, and Foxfire and Captain Canary.
Legends and Captain Canary got me introduced to the Legends Crew. Getting to chat with @freyreh, @thoughtsandlife23, @dragonydreams, @locitarose, @newyorkcitydreaming, @saralxnces, @stillthewordgirl, @glasscassel, @nyxisis, and @flabbergabst about the Arrowverse, fic ideas, Captain Canary, and even some Foxfire had been a major highlight, and I have so much fun swapping fics and ideas. You guys have been the best.
Legends of Tomorrow also revitalized my drive to write fanfiction that I hadn’t experienced since my early AOS days. I’ve written probably close to 200 pieces of Captain Canary or Foxfire fanfiction. I’ve made some progress with Captain Simmons. And I still love the Wastebasket, even though I’ve toned down more this year.
Thank you to the Legends Crew, my Wastebasket buddies @gwendolynnby, @taleasoldastime-andspace, @gaaike, @the-whouffaldi-club, @malialeiaoswald, and @whouffalditrash, @spasticchipmunkhuman (Your headcanons give me life and you are one of the sweetest people ever), @marywisdom, @hanorganaas, @larielromeniel, @sym-posts, @a-girl-named-whiskey, @captaincanarygotmelike, @audiovizualna, @jackyfaberalannadrwho, @kineticallyanywhere, @pintosketches, @fezwearingjellybananas, @blaineandsamevanderson, @adacanary, @allons-y-to-hogwarts-713, and @thecrooktomyassasin for making this year awesome for me on Tumblr, and a thank you to all of my followers for putting up with me and my weirdness and ramblings.
2016 was pretty crappy worldwide, but let’s make 2017 a great one. We can kick ass and make it amazing.
PASS THE HAPPY ALONG! when you get this, reply with five things that make you happy and pass along to ten nice people. ♡
1.) Chatting with @freyreh, @dragonydreams, @locitarose, @saralxnces, @stillthewordgirl, @newyorkcitydreaming, @thoughtsandlife23, @nyxisis, and @flabbergabst about Legends of Tomorrow. As well as chatting with a lot of other people on here about various other headcanons and AUs.
2.) Knitting.
3.) Really awesome AUs for anything. I am such a sucker for AUs. Hit me up with them anytime.
I really hope all these pot shots being taken at Mick are addressed in the second half of the season. There's a time for a joke and there's times not for one. Joking about someone's mental health, expecially that same someone who has saved all their lives countless of times and probably knows more about time travel than the rest of them, and is going through insurmountable grief equals DON'T CRITICIZE SOMEONE'S METAL HEALTH. Doing it just to be "funny" or make a character a "comic relief" for a second even though they are a much more worthy chacter than that is just shitty writing and if they don't resolve this I will never forgive them.
