Fantastic #French #snuffBox in burl wood, embossed with the #LegionOfHonour.... the other side is a battle scene, and hard to date: however, the Legion of Honour changes over time..... this example is not the original Napoleonic one - which features Napoleon in the center - but instead bears the image of Henry IV, the popular 16th-early 17th century King of France. This variation remained until the overthrow of the Bourbons in favour of King Louis Phillipe I in 1830. This box therefore dates 1814-30, a nicely definitive date for an object often just labelled ‘#19thCentury’ .
