he had his own intentions in convincing her to help him. but he could have only received her help, if he was honest and candid. i think at that point he still thought, that he could just play the honest-part of without being actually honest with her. nevertheless he still didn’t understand that he was already taken aback - and that he already showed her his true self. so he failed to see that his tactic didn’t work the way he wanted it to. he doesnt even fully realize that he already started liking her in the whole process. i mean this is the cutest way of cheering someone up without giving them the feeling of justifying something.
the first gif shows like the best minimalistic judging expression i have seen - he is looking at her like "do i really like her? me?! her?...". but in the next gif he can't deny it - his emotions ovetake him. this switch of emotions reminds me so much of the behaviour of cats (and the pillow is even in a cat shape) - he is like a cat right there.
