Looking down the corridor of what once was the main hallway of the Whitehall Mall. From this perspective, Sears is behind us, and we would be looking straight down the hallway towards the Zollinger-Harned department store (later replaced by Leh's). The parking lot on our right stands where there used to be a line of stores. On the left side, we currently have Five Below, Lane Bryant, Bed Bath & Beyond, Payless Shoesource, Catherine's Plus Sizes, and a massage parlor (in order from closest to us to farthest away). Obviously the Payless is going out of business, but it seems like Catherine's and the massage place may be leaving soon too because the mall's leasing agency is advertising all three units at the end as available for lease. I dont know what many of these stores used to be, except I strongly suspect the Bed Bath & Beyond was where the Woolworth was located. This mall's Woolworth was pretty large by all accounts, and included its own eatery.
The row of big box stores you can see in the background was also formerly a mall hallway. As I said before, the anchor at this end was originally the Zollinger-Harned department store, which today is split between the Shoe Carnival, part of Gold's Gym, and part of Buy Buy Baby. Most of Buy Buy Baby, however, was originally a Weis Market. The Michael's and Men's Warehouse at the end are new constructions and did not exist before the mall was redeveloped into a mostly open air strip center.
Tasty food
1) Hair Raven wings took flight on my head, Gloss and oil it was black like sleep, These feathers grew long and thick from my scalp well past my hips, Until the day I plucked them short, Swapped it for sun kissed cat fur, And found myself chameleon, Change is so easy to make, But now we have to live with it. 2) Body Moon crust barraged by asteroids, Craters and mountains made me up, With dips and hills everywhere I looked, My landscape was something to get used to, With one color alone at first glance, And as you look closer you’ll see the signs of seasons, I would garden and groom the weeds I didn’t want just to see some grow back, The day I let the forest of my body thrive how it will, Were the first days of an endless spring. 3) Face River wellsprings are so hard to track down, And when the overflow caused the flood plains of my cheeks to submerge, It ran down to my mouth fertilizing the crop of words on my teeth, My tongue burst with songs, My lips became praries, Both occasionally grazed by others, But never colonized or tainted, Wild like the lightning storms behind my eyelids, I’ve been told that it’s scary, There’s no thunder to warn you, But fire only burns if you get too close, So do yourself a favor and keep some distance, Here lighting likes to strike the same spot twice. 4) Skin Blessed are those with mixed blood, For these are the people with fine babies, Mottled coats and multilayered fur, We are the product of revolution, The taste of color from each layer and tone is unique, Something renown for the ability to be mutable, Yet still seen as mute, I can go from snow to sand to sycamore in a single season, So please tell me again why you can’t understand my magic. 5) Legs The highways of my body intersect at my hips, Traveling past the arc of covenant nested in my thighs, To the forests of old nurtured in my shins, Down further to the beaches of my body, Where the sand of my toes meets the sea of everything else, Its a long journey down, These latitudes much greater than those of its longitudes, How does one learn to navigate continents two at a time?
