Their relationship makes me ill, it's pain everywhere. Even if Izor wants to do better he's inexcusable, I hate him but also unfortunately love him 😭
Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms (2018)
I watched Maquia when the promised flower blooms a few weeks ago it was good the animation was really pretty and it blended 3d and 2d really well.
But I have a bone to pick with the world building. It's very confusing...things are not explained not well but usually at all. The story couldn't fully make up it's mind if it wants to be a family drama w a political/war drama back drop or the other way around so both ends of the story ended up suffering for me. I really liked that Maquia's big contribution during a battle was to help a woman (her son's wife) give birth I think that genuinely befited her character a lot, 100% the real battle that happened. Leilia was my favorite character her being the most adventurous, being lock in a tower and forced to give birth to a child she couldn't even see most of her life that is juicy. Her escape sceen was really good too w her jumping being a parallel to the begining of the movie being saved by Maquia on a dragon (Maqia being to afraid to jump just a smaller distance riding a dragon, both her and the dragon being relics of an old time). And Leilia telling her daugther (in a way) to forget the time they both spent suffering in that castle was really beautifull, cool thing too that she wasn't forced to be a mother, Maquia is a mother Leilia should have been.
For me sadly the whole thing at points just turned into a confusing mess w it's setting and world building which also took up to much time so my investment in Maquia and Ariel's story also decresed a lot from what it could have been. Anyway it wasn't bad just a bit weak for me at a lot of it's aspects which worked intandume to make eachother weaker. Also here is a Leilia:
