Currently I have six tattoos. Three in very visible places (forearms) and three in places I can easily hide them (neck, back, ankle). I got the first one in 2006 and the curious thing is that I fall asleep when getting tattoos. The sound of the machine is so monotone and I have such a high pain tolerance that I just relax so much and after some time, I just doze off.
I don't think tattoos need to have a huge meaning behind them or need to be designed to perfection. I connect mine with a lot of memories that I've gotten over the years. The tattoo on my ankle is a combination of two band logos. Although I do not actively follow these two bands anymore, I do listen to their music, but every time I see the tattoo, I think about all the concerts I've been to, friends I've made because of those bands, and a crazy, very spontaneous road trip with a friend.
I'll definitely get more tattoos and I love learning about other people's tattoos a lot. Meanings, stories, memories, and also regrets. Tattoos are a fantastic way of expressing ourselves and our body is a blank canvas.
I did have doubts about showing the tattoo on my right wrist during my internship, because it is the band logo of the Murderdolls, hence a puppet with devil-horns in a coffin, but I never got a negative response to this or any tattoo. The clients were curious, some openly said it is not for them, but they said they looked nice.
