14. do you ever mark/dog ear books you own?

i never deliberately mark my books not because i feel any particular way about preserving them but because i have the kind of Numbers Brain™️ where i just remember the page number.

there was this girl i knew in high school who loaned me her copy of i think it was Divergent which was for some reason hard to get in ireland for a while and she got hers in the US and insisted that IF she loaned it to me i couldn’t mark it in any way (basic etiquette although i let people who borrowed my stuff dog ear i didn’t care i was just happy they wanted to read) but ALSO she said that i had to avoid making a crease in the paperback spine, which to me seemed impossible.

i did manage to read the book in a bizarrely uncomfortable way that involved more neck-ache than in the end divergent really warranted but i personally love when the spines of books are creased & it always reminds me of reading divergent and having to squirm around in bed to get the lamplight into the dark part of the page because i couldn’t open the book fully
