But for real, like in the canon of overture If you take Pyke and Rex as siblings shit can get really heavy if you think about it a little bit.
Like, I personally have this idea that they aren’t related by blood, they’re just two completely random kids who just both happen to be solar elves and make who Khan picked up, if you do see them as blood related im pretty sure everything can get two times more tragic (something something, they’re the only thing they had left, something something, still they abandoned each other).
Outside of whether they actually see themselves as brothers or not, the way Khan raised them always prioritizing their performance on the racetrack over the rest has visible repercussions in their personalities.
Like when Rex is introduced and it’s obvious Pyke has an issue with being visually compared to him, even in the wiki it says something about Pyke being annoyed when someone mentions how Rex is mlre handsome than him. Sure it could just be normal jealousy, but it could also be because he’s being compared at all.
He’s like you but more handsome easily translates to he’s like you but better. Something I could 100% see being a comparison drawn between them at the start when Pyke was still loosing most races to Rex.
Even worse I’m pretty sure they never actualky say anything about becoming number one in the pathway like in canon. Number one is Khan of course, they have been fighting over the second and third spot for decades and they are okay with that oddly enough.
Like it’s never something about winning number two and climbing up to usurp Khan’s record, the race itself has been reduced to just the two of them since no other racer can be to their level and as Khan’s students its basically like he owns the top three spots on the record board by proxy.
So when they’re racing no matter now many times they win first place in a race on the grand scheme of things they will always be second or third, always below Khan and one of them below the other. Because number one (the same level as Khan) is unattainable just like his expectations for them are unattainable.
