59. Low Blow. Acrylic on panel. 8x10. 3/36/17. . Last of the memes started in March 2017. From the 1986 movie Low Blow, and then Best of the Worst by RedLetterMedia. Thought it was funny to have a shitty painting of some dude, so when people are looking through them, they’re like “who is this?” And I’m like “oof that’s a fucking Low Blow.” Bit of a “who’s on first” goof. . Timelapse shows the transfer process for the April 2017 memes, featuring the groovy tunes from @futureislands . Using the shitty painting nobody is gonna look at to talk about graphite transfer. For most of Year One I was “tracing” the images onto canvas all in bunches so I’d be able to jump around as colors came up. This was also to leapfrog over anxiety I had about getting back into drawing after having stopped entirely for almost a decade. Made a memerule in January 2017 that year one would be graphite transfer, year two would be grids, and year three is going to be hand drawing and projection, etc. Like part of the idea of the race aspect is to value production itself over trying to “prove” that you’re skilled at drawing or whatever.
