I started watching The Company (Ya She 哑舍) and it's been a great watch so far!

It tells the story of Bizhi (Gao Weiguang), a man from the far future in which time travel has been invented. Lonely and dissatisfied with his bland existence, he steals an unregistered time machine and starts travelling through different eras to experience both life and genuine human companionship.

During his travels into the past he meets Qin Ziyi (Liang Jingkang), a young nobleman with whom he shares an instant connection. The two men become best friends and spend much of their time together—until Qin Ziyi becomes the victim of a conspiracy against him and dies in a fire.

Years after the incident, Bizhi travels to the present. He has disguised his time machine as an antique shop called Ya She and uses it to visit different eras to collect the treasures that once belonged to his deceased friend.

In the present, he meets a young veterinarian by the name of Su Beilu who happens to look exactly like his former best friend. And Bizhi, who is convinced that there's a connection between these two, decides to take Su Beilu along on his travels to trigger his lost memories...

The Company is a drama that is well-crafted and gorgeous to look at. Each antique treasure comes with its own story, and each of them is more heartbreaking than the previous one.

Gao Weiguang portrays Bizhi as an eccentric time traveller who deeply misses his lost love friend. He has great chemistry with his younger co-star Liang Jingkang in both of his roles, and it only gets better in later episodes. With the way the scenes in which they appear together are often filmed, this also gives me strong dangai vibes, and I'm not sure this wasn't the goal here.

Anyway, it's a great drama so far, and if you're into time travel plots that break your heart every other episode, then this could be your thing.

The Company is a criminally underrated show about loneliness, grief, and friendship, and the lengths people will go to to hold on to the people they love in all eras of time. It's exceptionally well-written, with great character development. The relationships are warm and gentle, and the actors do a great job of conveying the depth of feelings between their characters.

Space-time continuum problems are always hard on relationships! (Although, in this case, another character has gone back and forth this same way a couple times with no problems so it's not clear why Su Beilu can't also do it, but whatever. Timey-wimey stuff, I guess.)

When a time traveler decides to break the laws of time travel and alter the course of history, you know there's serious stuff going down! This is the next to last episode and I'm not sure I'm ready for the last one. I've cried about a dozen times already throughout the show and the finale is bound to be emotional.
