The Pace Report: "Ivan Lins: Up Close and Personal" The Ivan Lins Interview
Welcome to this special edition of The Pace Report featuring legendary Brazillian composer, songwriter, and vocalist Ivan Lins performing for the first time in New York City at the Blue Note in seven years.
Ivan has created throughout his 50 year career has written classics such as "Love Dance," "Setembro," "I'm Not Alone," "Comecar de Nono(Starting Over)," "Nocturne," and "You Moved Me to This.
His very first hit record "Madalena" was recorded by Brazillian vocalist Regina Elis in 1970.
Mr. Lins's music was first recorded in and discovered by the legendary Quincy Jones as he produced songs of his for artists like George Benson, Take 6, Patti Austin and Toots Thielsmans. In fact, it was percussionist Paulino de Costa that introduced Ivan's music the Quincy in the late 1970's.
Over the last 30 years Ivan's music has been recorded by a myriad of artists and groups like The Manhattan Transfer, Sting, Michael Buble, Dionne Warwick, Barbara Strisand, Shirley Horn, and Mark Murphy.
I had a chance to speak with Ivan recently while he was in New York to candidly talk about his career, the art of songwriting, his musical influences, and the tribute record that was produced by Jason Miles.
