My ex and I both liked "ABCDEFU" by Gayle when it came out and at some point she referred to it as "our" song. And I was like, huh, our song being a breakup song doesn't exactly seem like a good omen.
And because I was desperate for love, and because I knew that the bullying she once had to endure probably traumatized her, it took me years to realize that our song was really "Avalanche" by Leonhard Cohen.
I hope she'll find peace and happiness one day. I hope I will, too.
