HYO-MAN aka LEOPARD MAN
Released today (only four months late) is the third issue of Spectreman Heroes, a series presenting comic book adventures of various P Productions superheroes. This time the book features Hyo-Man (aka Leopard Man)!
cover by Hiroshi Kanatani
Hyo-Man was the second of two feline-based superheroes that P Productions pitched in 1967 (the first being Jaguar Man).
The pilot:
Neither pilot was picked up for production, but that didn’t stop a Hyo-Man manga from appearing in 1968. I was not able to find out much about the manga series, but the Hyo-Man character has been revisited in manga a few times over the years.
Like the two previous entries in the series (Electroid Zaborger and Lion-Maru), I’m not sure this issue is an original story done for the Spectreman Heroes, or a reprint of an already existing manga. Based on the formatting of the story, I’m inclined to believe it’s the former.
I love the fact that Hyo-Man, who never got a television series like the rest of the characters featured in Spectreman Heroes, was given a chance to shine in the comic book. I don’t know how sale of this series have been, but I would love to see a continuation of any or all the P Productions heroes in comic books, even if it’s an anthology title.
Pkmnskies: Damien App
Name: Damien Nickname: Age: 35 Height: 5’5 Gender: Male Species: Liepard Hometown: Lumious city Birthdate: May 29th Nature: Adamant Personality: Proud-ambitious- subtle-perceptive-sophisticated- independent Untrusting-arrogant-spiteful-emotionally reserved- manipulative Damien is a rather confident, untrusting, and arrogant man. He speaks with confidence whether he believes something or not and still expects you to understand what he means. It is on you if you misunderstand, misheard, or didn’t under the metaphor, even if he is redacting the information on the spot. Blame should be avoided at all points Believing firmly that everyone is putting on an act and everyone is out for themselves, he does his best to stay ahead of the game. For that reason he stays civil and polite, living by the mask that tells him how to live in an upper class society. He doesn't like being cornered and confronted and retaliates with catty and sometimes juvenile behavior. This is a very catty man. Moveset: Fake out, play rough, night slash, payday Ability: Limber History: Born to a rich family in Lumious city, Damien was always given what he wanted as long as he could speak clearly with tact and be sly with it. His parents were doting yet they were controlling, showing him off to other families and the media. When not showing him off, they let the nannies take care of him most of the time. Damien had little time with his parents, but he was taught to obey and listen to their wishes if he wanted to stay in their graces. His family always encouraged keeping secrets within the family; Friends were to be seen as stepping stones to help better oneself. He was not to associate himself with the poor, as it would ruin his image and be outside of his pedigree. He was not to bring any shame to his family name. This resulted in many years of shallow friendships based on his money and class. As his family’s shallow methods, mannerisms, and values were all he knew, this became his life. Relationships were similar with Damien being unimpressed with any partner his family paired him with. HIs ambitious nature normally got in the way of the relationship as his partners tended to want to spoil themselves. Usually resulting in the cat breaking off the relationship with the first excuse he could get. Usually risky behaviors were what he would point to as a negative trait of his current partner at the time. Spreading rumors to his family about the partner to make sure he had dull support before breaking it off. Eventually branching off to become an interior designer to have a steady job that worked with his creative interests in a professional and in his family's eyes, a field that wasn’t diminishing his masculinity. Staying out of relationships as he felt they were more of a liability to his business and ambitions….that and he just didn’t like his partners. He just found the women he was introduced to be unbearable. As comfortable as he was, he was becoming more aware of his family's political dealings with things like money laundering, campaign finance laws, and bribery with important figures. Feeling that it was starting to get a bit dicey as it seemed investigations were being mentioned. He saw himself out, to a new location. Hoping to avoid any trouble his family may be getting into, he moved to a quiet town that looked to be rather lackluster and obscure. A place called springleaf. Hobbies: Fashion, designing, business, golf, Polo, looking at vineyards, viewing exotic pets(he doesn't take care of them) Trivia: His personal curiosities were unfavorable to the family's values. He tends to be nice to staff, because they can leak what they see of him if he were to be unsightly.

Citravaghra, the Night Hunter The Night Hunter from Blood & Bone by Ian C Esslemont
“There's a new kind of horror picture [...] full of beautiful girls and sharp dialogue, good food and French lullabies. They hide under fireside-chat titles like Cat People, I Walked with a Zombie, Leopard Man, Seventh Victim [...] They show us pretty girls changing into man-killing cats, registered nurses who believe in zombies, and gorgeous lady executives joining screwball societies dedicated to satanic pursuits. At least we think they do [...] They provide the overturned chair, the muffled footstep, the creaking door, the wild eye--then let our imaginations take over to do the real work.”
