Fairburn is an Agate belonging to the court of Yellow Diamond. She was created during era 1, near the beginning and worked under an agate in the law firms. Eventually, she was promoted to head of the courts, and after that, she was promoted to yellow diamondāsĀ āpersonal agateā, a type of captain/guard that accompanies her, particularly while she checks on the latest advances in gem science.
Yellow diamondās court is responsible forĀ overseeing the development of new experimental technology, as well as the law system. One of their era 1 projects was known as theĀ ākaleidoscopeā; a device created to access parallel dimensions. Combining the power of sapphiresā abilities to access different timelines (and by extension, alternate universes based on different outcomes) with peridotsā telekinesis (moving matter without physical interaction with it), the scientists of the gem world created a device that generates a powerful portal to alternate realities. The morals behind this however, are rather dubious, considering the portal is powered by the gemstones of peridots and sapphires, as well as drawing thermal energy from the centre of the planet it is based on. Thus, the kaleidoscope, thoughĀ āworkingā was not stable (whether due to resisting gems trying to reform, to the planetās finite energy supply, it is unsure).
Yellow diamond herself would periodically visit the kaleidoscope while in progress and during testing to monitor itās progress, often accompanied by her personal agate Fairburn, as well as the agate responsible for running the science firms. Towards the end of era 1 however, an unknown power surge hit the complex, and the portal was activated without proper safety precautions/preparations in place. Fairburn, being one of the closest to the portal, was sucked in. No one knew what had happened to Fairburn, whether she had been obliterated in the accident, or sent to an alternate reality, however, after a few more years of trying to stabilise the kaleidoscope (under Yellow Diamondās strict orders), the project was eventually retired.
Where is Fairburn now? Trapped in an alternate reality and adjusting to life in a different universe, much to her distress. Scared and unsettled by unfamiliar ideas, laws and concepts, sheās finding it hard to adjust, but sheās doing her best to fit in.
After working her way up the ranks, the Diamonds of this universe eventually call Fairburn in to question about how she arrived in this reality, and thus leads to developing a new kaleidoscope. Fairburn of course, begins to question her loyalty to the new Diamond Authority in lieu of pursuing a (morally dubious) way homeā¦
