Leprechaun!Sunny Day Jack x Reader
Tags/CW: unspecified fae bullshit, implied hypnosis, slight POV switch, fantasy, contemporary fiction
A/N: i have a personal image of Jack as a leprechaun, but do feel free to use ur imagination!
"So, ye found me gold coins did ya?" Jack remarked. The thick clover stem twisted in his lips as he spoke. Though even when he took it out to gesture with, the stem showed no sign of wear. "I don't suppose ye pocketed some for yourself, eh?"
You blinked, suddenly feeling a weight in your pockets. Your hands dig inside and pull out a coin. Strange, you could have sworn you counted three as you handed them off.
A quick glance up at Jack shows his eyes are crinkled with musing glimmer and a wide smile. Obviously, you think, he's happy to see his third coin present. Though his expression is somewhat queer for this scenario. Less portraying relief and more so sardonic.
Suddenly, your stomach sunk as a chilling thought crossed your mind.
Did he think I was trying to be slick and steal from him?
Your arm shoots out to drop the club in his open hand before closing his fingers on his palm and taking a couple of steps back.
"I-I apologize. My memory can be bad and ... sorry. Really."
"Eh, no harm done." Jack half shrugs. An easy smile on his lips. At least it would have been, had you decided to ignore your better judgment.
It was a little game of his, you see.
Every now and again, an unsuspecting human would cross his path - often looking for directions - and ge would claim to have lost his gold. And he did! He had a habit of losing it and forgetting where he put it. On purpose? Speculate.
Anyway, he would ask and for whatever reason, they would oblige a handsome, spiffy dressed stranger and promptly find his gold. These searches of hours ... lasting up to about a week. (Or three days. Of course, Jack wasn't so mean he'd spread his coins so far out of the way.)
If not of their own actions, humans that were tasked to return his coins would always find themselves a penny short. And they'd feel the weight of their chosen sin in the pocket. A majority of them would choose to be ignorant to this... shift.
Everyone knows that nauseating weight of a bad feeling. Whether it be leaving their phone at the house or a child in the back of a hot car. It's entirely up to ones own mind to double check for something amiss. And more often than not misguided confidence would lead them astray.
Thus, ensuring a string of very, very bad luck.
Most had survived the week. Some had not.
You however, were of the lucky few who thought better of maneuvering a leprechaun. Or even better, you had not thought of it at all.
'It seemed your will and conscious was stronger than most!' Jack's mind supplied.
He held the final begotten coin up between his fingers. The sunlight catches on its golden surface and he twirls it repeatedly so that it may flash prettily, before producing the other three between the gaps in his glove.
The trick makes you grin and giggle a little. He knew that you would be fascinated by him, for he is quite charming.
By keeping your attention he would toss the same three coins between his hand and drop them above the other as he engaged in benign conversation with you. And though they are few, they jingle prettily in his hands. Sometimes he can't tell the difference between their sound and your laugh. And you laughed at whatever he said.
He liked the reactions you gave. Of course he didn't think you were pure. No human was, and you were as human as they come. But you were good, and you were genuine which he certainly enjoyed more than the predictability of selfishness and greed.
And so ironically, he allowed himself to spoil you.
"Three wishes," Jack said, "In return for retrieving my coins. It's yours~"
