Well I just watched Les Mis 1998 for the first time
I can confidently give it a 2/10—only gets that one point because of Cosette threatening Javert with a gun
I literally can't give it any higher a score because like how can you mess up the characterization so badly?? People hate on the 2012 movie but at least it's not this inaccurate.
-Jean Valjean SLAMMING Javert into the wall, hitting Cosette and the bishop
-Valjean skipping away like "lah dee dah 😌" after watching Javert die, THEN IT JUST ENDS??
-Marius being the leader of the rebellion and Enjolras acting more like Grantaire than Grantaire does
-the complete erasure of Eponine (that is TOTALLY unforgivable)
-the whole thing with Courfeyrac betraying the students plus Marius and Cosette, and with Javert showing up, Valjean reveals that he's an ex convict to Cosette, etc. That whole mess.
-Valjean in love with Fantine?
-the whole rebellion thing is like 5 minutes total (imo it just spent way too much time on the first 300 pages worth of the brick, leaving the remaining 1,000+ pages to the last hour or so)
And yeah I know there have been discussions about it before but it's just so hilariously inaccurate that I had to post 😂😭
For all of Les Mis 1998's crimes (of which there are many) the movie does absolutely go the fuck off moments before Javert's suicide when Javert lifts Valjean's chin with a gun and says "I'm going to spare you from a life in prison, Jean Valjean. It's a pity the rules don't allow me to be merciful," before proceeding to throw himself into the Seine.
The moment is of course immediately ruined when Valjean just watches it happen and walks away smiling, but, y'know... that's Les Mis 1998 for ya.
several months late to making this but i first saw “uma thurman just watched me have sex” outside the context of this tweet and was therefore completely convinced it was related to les mis ‘98
He's no Philip Quast but i actually really liked Russel Crowe's Javert.
[ooc] I have finally drawn the cop!
Half way through I wasn't sure if was drawing Javert or Jean Valjean, this is Definitely Javert. He's channeling the most non musical Javert of all time, Geoffrey Rush.
average valjean leaves 3 javerts to die a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average valjean leaves 0 javerts to die per year. Jean Neesonjean, who lives in the violent adaptation & who beats 10,000 javerts into a wall each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
can almost see why you guys like this javert so much. he already is already acting very homosexual
