Canon era Grantaire wore an engagement ring all the time. It was gold and he never took it off. His friends would ask him who he was engaged to and he'd always reply "we're all engaged to something, aren't we?". Enjolras never asked. He didn't want to know about Grantaire's lover. As far as Les Amis de l'ABC knew, he has always been wearing it. But that's only because he bought it the day he met them. Or, the day he met Enjolras. And he wore it to show that he would always be devoted to him, forever and always. That ring was the last thing Enjolras felt, digging into his skin as he held Grantaire's hand and died.

ok but can anyone else pls think of enjolras with mid to high support needs bc like just think of it,

enj who goes from nonverbal to hyperverbal episodes every few days, so he either Doesnt Speak At All No Matter What or Doesnt Shut Up

enj who can often use an aac to communicate during nonverbal episodes but sometimes not even that

enj who wasnt able to finish highschool even though he was one of the smartest kids in the school

enj who cannot hold a conversation about any topics that arent his interests, no matter how much he cares for the person he's talking to

enj who is always stimming in some way - rocking back and forth, or fidgeting with a stim toy, or tapping on a table, or literally anything

enj who usually has shutdowns but can also have very bad very public meltdowns sometimes (which he feels insanely embarrassed about, no matter how many times hes told its not his fault)

enj who was never able to learn how to walk just right, and so needs mobility aids and/or has a "weird" gait

enj who refuses to eat almost anything because all foods but a select few (~10 or so) give him such bad sensory issues

enj who needs to be told to do every single basic task or he forgets to do them, and therefore cannot live on his own

enj who doesnt really feel his body's cues until it's extremely urgent, which sends him into the verge of a meltdown

enj who is well aware people won't listen to him because hes "too disabled", hating how he will often have to let his friends do the talking instead

enj who resents being unable to fight for the people as much as he would like to (both because of his own inability to do so and the public perception of anyone who's visibly disabled)

enj who knows he only views the world the way he does because of his disability and is grateful for this, but sometimes he wonders how his life would be had he been born "normal"

enj whose friends love and treasure him the same, which they sometimes need to reassure him of because they're the first people to willingly remain by his side

enj whose passion could still move mountains

thinking about canon era enjolsette siblings....

hear me out here; them being siblings on their dad's side and being tholomyes' kids. tholomyes, being the pos he was, was actually married with a child when he pursued fantine and left her when cosette was born to return to his wealthy wife and son. enjolras actually isn't his legal surname; it's tholomyes, but when he moved to Paris for his studies he starts going by his mother's maiden name to disassociate himself from his father.

enj starts going to the Luxembourg gardens to read because it helps him focus and he sees Cosette, fresh out of the nunnery, who looks scarily like him. cosette, when Valjean turns away for a moment, asks him a question about the book he is reading. He answers kindly and plainly, and Valjean and Cosette walk away. They keep happening across one another, and Enjolras is charmed by Cosette's curiosity. They talk when they see each other, share books, and discuss the world. Cosette is far more politically conscious than she is given credit for.

there is great angst potential in them never finding out they were siblings, yet valjean watching a boy with the same face as his daughter die on the barricade. even greater angst in cosette learning of her biological parents after Valjean's death, looking into Tholomyes, and learning that he had a son in Paris. She then connects the name to the boy Marius spoke about, the one who would talk to her in the gardens, and discovers only after his death that Enjolras was her brother.

Les Mis Headcanons:

Enjolsette siblings.

Enjolras is Joe Griffiths Brown. Joe Griffiths Brown is Enjolras.

Cosette is half Roma from Fantine.

Valjean is the lovliest person alive.

Valvert. Very domestic, very cute.

Cosette fucken tops okay.

There is no way in hell Marius can top.

Courfeyrac is Fra Fee with a Brooklyn accent.

It makes no sense but it makes complete sense.

Enjolras has BPD.

Cosette is an absolute diva.

Eponine is def the more femme one between the two.

Cosette grossly overestimates Valjean's crimes.

Cosette is sad that Valjean didn't kill anyone.

Cosette is sad that Valjean didn't run an underground drug trade.

He could have at least sold weed on the streets but no, he's boring.

Enjolras is very very frugal with his spendings but will blow $5000 on a single Sephora shopping trip.

Prouvaire and Feuilly are best friends!!!

Another PSA that Feuilly and Prouvaire are absolutely best friends and I know this to be true because, as someone who, at the time, had hardly interacted with fandom space at ALL, I was 100% confident this was popular fanon for some reason, but when I told a friend she was like, "I have never seen them interacting in fanon space."

Turns out they like… Sit next to each other and share a drink during Drink With Me in the 2012 movie, and are framed together occasionally

(And the way they both visually check with each other and Prouvaire steps back to be closer to him... I love them your honor <3)

Apparently my brain took all of this without me realizing and said, "Obviously they're best friends!"

But then I sat and thought about it and… it actually makes a lot of sense? Hear me out.

Feuilly is an artist, but he does it for work. I imagine, since he's probably not had a chance to explore creating art outside of a business setting, he views the process as a means to an end rather than any creative outlet (especially since, according to how fan painting worked at the time, he was likely just painting over already existing guides).

Prouvaire is a poet. He's a wealthy, only son, so it's got nothing to do with money - he does it out of love for the art. Pulling another headcanon into this, I imagine he actually has to go out of his way to even have and enjoy this hobby, but that's a headcanon for another time. The point is, he enjoys the arts as they are, free from any business mindset, purely from the standpoint of enjoyment. (And as an aside, I've got a headcanon that he really loves arts like drawing/painting, but he's no good at it himself, so he's in awe of those who can do those things.)

So we've got someone focused on making a living, a bit more grounded there, splitting his time between work and his goal of freeing the people, vs a dreamer, with his head in the clouds, spending time in an artistic venture out of desire. Keep those differences in mind, we'll come back to that later.

They also have shared/similar traits.

Feuilly is people-oriented. The orphan that adopted the world, a boy who cares about nations outside of his own. He clearly loves people, cares about people; despite his upbringing, having a background that could harden his heart towards others, he has learned to embrace humankind.

I personally believe Prouvaire has had a rough history socially. Once again, pulling from headcanons, but someone so awkward, dressing badly, blushing at nothing - that's not exactly a socially graceful person, and I'm sure that's affected him throughout his life. Until he joined the Amis, I don't think he probably had many positive social experiences. Still, despite those interactions I imagine it's likely he had experienced, he is described as loving the people.

Obviously they both care a lot about the state of things. Prouvaire is specifically described as spending a lot of time thinking about a variety of social issues - poverty included - not just the standalone issue of creating a new form of government. He's really thinking about all the issues at hand. Feuilly is also thinking beyond that base, core goal, once again considering others outside of France. They have a wide view of what's going on.

However, I do think the way they view the issues is a little different. Feuilly, again, I think is slightly more grounded in the reality of it all, though he's highly optimistic about things, dogged in the justice for the things he cares about. Prouvaire, though, he's a Romantic. There's a lot more focus on the emotional effect of things there. He dwells on the melancholy and tragedy of the world - pitying women and weeping over children. Not to say he doesn't act, of course, he's not solely dreaming about a better future without doing anything to make a change, but there is inherently a more gentle approach to it all.

As a side note, I do think Prouvaire probably suffers from low self-esteem for multiple reasons (though, again, I'm partially diving back into headcanon territory for that thought, but I do think it would make sense for how his character is described regardless). I believe Feuilly cares a lot about people's right to identity, to be confident in who they are. Though he clearly focuses a lot on national identity, what do people consider justice for humankind without including the right of individuals to be who they are, both in a national sense and a personal sense? I imagine he'd very much want to boost Prouvaire's confidence.

And completely in the territory of headcanon, I imagine them both to be freckled redheads, but where Feuilly has a fiery red head of hair and is covered with freckles, Prouvaire is a softer strawberry blond with a smaller smattering of freckles. Zero basis in canon for that one, just how I happened to picture them and realized how charming that similarity is once I started thinking about the friendship I picture between the two. But that is neither here nor there.

The point is, I think they would really benefit each other and get along superbly. I think Feuilly's genuine, earnest attitude would reach Prouvaire's shy and uncertain heart, and I think Prouvaire's gentle love for things would give Feuilly a new perspective to appreciate. Feuilly can encourage Prouvaire to love, not just others, but himself, and Prouvaire can encourage Feuilly to find the beauty in his own work, in the art he does, even if he's technically doing it out of necessity. Where Feuilly can fire up Prouvaire and help him grow, Prouvaire can soften Feuilly and help him slow down and stop and smell the roses, so to speak. In all these ways, they make for a balance of each other, I think, and a compliment, too.
