Day 14: Your favourite song

Oof. Favourite song questions are always so hard for me, but I feel like I’ve got a safe answer here.

“Universal Appeal” — The Misfits / “L’univers à mes pieds” — Les Misfits

It’s hard to put the songs’ overall appeal into words, but the short of it is that it’s empowering. “In my own mind’s eye, I am the sky, so why should I be shy?” Powerful! Ellen Bernfeld’s vocal delivery seals the deal.

I’ve included “L’univers à mes pieds,” because it holds a special place in my heart, too. I’m a sucker for a good Canadian-French dub and for little media oddities. “L’univers à mes pieds” ticks both those boxes. 

It never aired on television, but it was included on a promotional tape from the ‘80s. (Gotta love Canadian bilingualism!) The lyrics are as empowering as the English version (”sans fausse prudeur, sans avoir peur, je suis la meilleure”? aw heck yeah), and whoever’s doing main vox comes danged close to Bernfeld’s original in terms of power. I can’t not love it. I can’t not stan.
