1, 2, 5, 7 for andromeda and ted!
1. what i most like about them
They did it. You know that quote from Mary Oliver? Sometimes I really believe it, that I am going to save my life a little? That's them. They didn't get forever, but they managed a couple decades, and that matters. The odds were stacked against them, and it was never easy, but they built a life together despite it all.
2. what i hate about them
How little of them we got!! I want every drop of Tedromeda I can get!
In October 1981, she was ready to betray him to keep Tonks safe. Everyone thought Voldemort would win by that fall. She wrote to Narcissa offering anything and everything if Narcissa would promise to keep Tonks safe. They weren't Order members (though they were allies), but she was willing to join or let Ted join in order to spy or pass on information or anything at all if it meant she could get that promise to keep Tonks safe.
(She also promise that, in the unlikely event the Death Eaters lost, she would keep Draco safe too.)
She never received a reply (Narcissa was still considering what to do with this completely unexpected letter when Halloween happened.)
Andromeda did tell him later in November, and he understood because he knows her. He really knows her. He knows who he married. He would have made a different choice but they are different people. She was afraid he wouldn't understand but that was her underestimating him again.
also ted is trans masc nb (identifies differently in different decades as his understanding of himself and his gender shifts) and andromeda is a femme lesbian (forever beating that drum) <3
also (can't escape without an opportunity to shout about this headcanon) Andromeda is an alcoholic. She gets sober through Muggle AA, which is also how she (finally, to a genuine degree) starts to see Muggles as people.
7. my unpopular opinion on them
the amount of toxicity in their relationship!! 99% of the time I see them portrayed as something simple and happy and they're not! It was HARD. Andromeda... does not always treat him well. And he accepts way worse treatment than he deserves.
Ted is someone who willingly entered into a fling (what was supposed to be a fling) with someone who clearly did not see him as entirely a person. That's kind of fucked up!
Andromeda did not shake her upbringing easily. (or her trauma, though I suppose it's kind of the same thing.)
The power balances between them are bizarre because on the one hand Andromeda holds all this power, but then once they're in the muggle world she really doesn't know anything so all of sudden he holds a lot of power? because she's kind of useless in the muggle world? but she holds a lot of anxiety? and also residual entitlement? and she kind of feels entitled to him - especially because it's so driven by concern for his safety?
and that's not even considering how much they get in a fucked up cycle of codependent alcoholic/child of an alcoholic!
you know that thing about how even if your parents didn't work through all of their generational trauma, they at least worked through some? that's how I think of them. they didn't fix it all, and they weren't perfect parents, but they worked through a lot.
(also andromeda fucking hated remus. no one hates remus like andromeda.)
