So I decided to take a sign language course, and about 1 hr in I’m starting to get a headache and I realize it’s because I’ve spent 1 hr looking consistently at my teacher (who is deaf and mute obviously) and the consistent eye contact is probably giving me a headache

So I don’t wanna drop this class, because I want to learn sign language; but at the moment I realize I’m at disadvantage; I’m suddenly very aware I have issues understanding non-verbal communication, and looking at the same place, specially a person, for a long period of time is physically taxing to me, again literal physical pain for looking at my teacher 1 hr (but it’s good for my stimming)

Now I told my brother and he said that maybe I should leave the class, and told my mom and she said that it’s like exercising, at first it’s painful but you gotta push through... thanks mom autistic people forcing themselves to maintain eye contact is a thing that works /sarcasm. *sigh* It really is not that easy, I can probably work this, but I might tell my teacher that constant eye contact gives me an actual headache; I’m considering also asking permission to wear headphones it’s not like I need to hear anything (after a while the silence was so intense I could hear the air condition and the computer and was honestly distressing)
