Dixie Carter and Leslie Ackerman as Julia Sugarbaker and Phyllis McGuire Designing Women (1986–1993) S04E07 · “Bernice's Sanity Hearing”
Remember that one ep where Leslie cried and Abby was like: why're you crying, you've got 2 successful kids! And I'm just like, why is she crying, I don't think the moms were being any meaner to her than anyone else.
the moms were mean to leslie because every time she came on she’d spout off on some bullshit and piss everyone off lmao. the only time I felt bad for leslie was in s4 when abby gave payton a costume that didn’t fit and then said she didn’t care about payton anymore and cut her solo.
....I feel like I might get skewered for my hottest of hot takes....I don't think Abby was completely wrong for dismissing Christi and Leslie after they had their fight. They were there for the competition, and their behavior would reflect poorly on their group, the girls included. She could've dismissed them but not Chloe and Peyton, at least allowed the girls the choice to stay, but I can somewhat understand her reasoning. Side note, it's cute Asia hugged Chloe first when they left.
oh I actually don’t have a problem with abby kicking christi and leslie out. I do find it hypocritical that melissa wasn’t also kicked out for flashing her breasts at a group of tourists (which…….is not something you should do when you’re with your kids at a dance competition), and considering the verbal altercations abby has had in the past I also think it’s laughable for her to try to hold any kind of moral high ground, but I understand her reasoning as well. it just pisses me off that chloe and payton were also punished for their mothers’ actions. and I really think that the christi-leslie fight was used as a pretext to prevent chloe from winning nationals a second time and embarrassing abby’s ~protege~.
and yes, so cute!! I always liked asia, on both audc and dm.
What did you think of Leslie and Payton?
leslie: annoying as all hell. was not particularly sorry to see christi smack her drink out of her hand lmao. the only time I felt sorry for her was a little bit in s4 when abby would bring payton on just to scream at her. also when she brought payton on, gave her a solo against kalani, and then didn’t order a costume that actually fit payton so she didn’t get to perform. but otherwise, fuck leslie
payton: kind of ambivalent towards her. she was a decent dancer, but she really didn’t fit in with the girls (not to sound like jill lol). I felt bad that she was basically a chew toy for abby, and I felt bad that her “I thought I was better than everyone” statement was kind of blown out of proportion. otherwise, not many thoughts.
What’s your opinion on Peyton & Leslie? I thought Leslie was so annoying. And peyton wasn’t a bad dancer, she just didn’t fit in. She also had quite a few bratty moments, but she was also 16. If the rest of the girls were filmed until that age, there would have been bratty moments.
leslie was incredibly fucking annoying and rude, although she sometimes did make some reasonable points. abby’s treatment of payton was pretty shitty; she shouldn’t have dangled the promise of being permanently on the comp team when it was obvious abby only saw payton as a temp.
as for payton herself, like you said, she just didn’t fit with the style of the team. the only time she fit perfectly imo was in “lift you up” because that didn’t require her to be soft and lyrical. I honestly don’t think her bratty moments were that bratty. I felt like abby overreacted to payton’s comment in “no one likes a bully”, and most of the girls had meltdowns at one time or another in the show’s run. the one thing that bothers me is that she continued to cape for abby after she stopped being on the show because like…..what was the point?? why continue to kiss up to her??
Legacy Play - Kekoa-Messer Family - Generation 4 and 5
Edward and Fatima had invited son Lionel’s uncles and cousins to celebrate his coming of age.
Once everyone was gathered Lionel blew out his candles and became a fully fledged young adult.
With charisma and a love of food Lionel was perfectly poised to follow his father into the restaurant trade.
Legacy Play - Kekoa-Messer Family - Generation 5
That afternoon Lionel arrived home having graduated from high school.
Tonight he would celebrate his birthday with his family but before it was time to do that he took the opportunity for one last selfie to show how his muscles had grown in preparation for becoming a fully grown man.
Legacy Play - Generation 3 to 5 - Kekoa-Messer, Messer and Kim Families
Whilst Lionel sat enjoying a slice of his birthday cake and getting the inside scoop on high school from Enrico and Fabian his grandmother Maria hugged his father Edward.
Maria: My boy! I miss you so.
Edward: Not so tight Mum, I need to breathe to live you know. Are you okay?
Maria: I’m at my wits end with your sister. She’s just such a stubborn teen girl.
Edward: I can’t imagine where she gets that from....
Maria: Cheeky. You may have a point but you can you have a word with her for me? I’m too old for all this stress.
