There are 3 main types of binders. Full tank, half tank, and strapless.
Full tank looks like a tank top, a half tank is a tank top that cuts off below the binding part (like a crop top), and strapless, which is more of a strip of binding.
The main binder sellers are:
GC2B- Run by all AFAB people. Very good quality, and reasonably priced. A good range of colors too. They’re very safe, and my personal favorite. They sell full tank and half tank binders.
Underworks- originally made for guys with man boobs. Not the easiest to navigate and a bit pricier. Good quality. I may be slightly biased but I think GC2B is better.
Shapeshifters- A binding company that sells binders in fun prints, and is very customizable. You can ask for the straps to be set wider apart too. They sell full and half tanks. Good quality, but gets pretty expensive.
Lesloveboat- Not a company I’m very familiar with, but they do sell all types of binders. They’re safe, but tend to be more expensive than GC2B
Amazon- NOT SAFE, I don’t care how many times I have to say it, but and binder you find on Amazon is most likely not safe, and not worth the risk. This is how people end up in hospitals.
Another quick note is that binding with ace bandages is NOT safe. Please for the love of everything in the universe, don’t ever let people use ace bandages on their chest for binding.
I’ve mentioned binder companies, but there’s also KT tape, which is an athletic tape that can be used for binding. However, it is pretty expensive and isn’t great for long-term binding because you’ll end up spending a ton of money on something. So I recommend it for people who only bind occasionally or once in a blue moon. There are plenty of tutorials on how to use it on youtube.
Your best/safest bet for strapless would be lesloveboat. Their strapless binder is velcro so it can be tightened as needed. There are quite a few things that you can find on it, whether they’re articles or videos. They bind well, and you don’t have to worry about straps.
For most binders it’s recommended not to wear them longer than 8 hours, however, GC2B says you can wear a binder for 11 hours at the very most, though 8 is the recommended max.
I wear my binder for no longer than 8 hours. I put it on in the morning before school, and take it off as soon as I get home.
Remember that binders trap heat, causing the wearer to sweat. Drink lots of water when binding.
When binding, the wearer should stretch every few hours. Anything that stretches the back and shoulder muscles is good.
Don’t bind while sleeping, or exercising. If someone wants to bind while swimming, buy a binder from GC2B 1 size up from their usual size. Don’t put binders on while wet.
Binders should be hand washed and air dried.
