notes: guys its such a mish having to post on tumblr, would you guys still support if i posted on wattpad instead cuz 😭😭 having to organise and layer it out is so ughhh
it’s been a week since that night, and things haven’t gotten better. in fact, they’ve only gotten worse. yunjin has been more distant, her late nights and vague excuses becoming a routine. you feel like you’re walking on eggshells, trying not to push her away any further, even though she’s the one who’s pulling away.
you sit on the edge of the bed, staring at your phone, waiting for yunjin to text back. your thumb hovers over her name, debating whether or not to call her again. but you already know how it’ll go. she won’t answer, and later she’ll say she was “busy” or “didn’t hear it.”
you hear the front door creak open, and your heart sinks. the familiar scent of alcohol fills the air before you even see her. yunjin stumbles into the room, barely sparing you a glance as she kicks off her shoes.
“where were you?” you ask, trying to keep your voice steady, but it cracks, betraying how tired you are of asking the same question, getting the same hollow answers.
she scoffs, tossing her jacket on the floor. “out. why do you always need to know where i am?”
“because you never tell me,” you say softly, watching her as she collapses onto the bed next to you, reeking of something that isn’t just alcohol. it’s like her very presence weighs heavy on your chest.
yunjin rolls her eyes, grabbing your wrist. “you’re overreacting again, like always.” her grip tightens just slightly, enough to make you uncomfortable. “why can’t you just trust me?”
“i do trust you,” you whisper, though even you aren’t sure if that’s true anymore. “but you keep disappearing, and you don’t—”
“stop.” she cuts you off, her voice sharp and impatient. “you’re being paranoid. i told you i love you, didn’t i? that’s enough.”
but it’s not. it’s not enough, and you know it. the worst part is, you’re not sure when it stopped being enough, but it did.
she pulls you down onto the bed with her, her arm wrapping around you in a way that should be comforting but feels more like a trap. you lie there stiffly, her breath hot against the back of your neck, and you wonder when it all started feeling so wrong.
the next morning, you’re drained, physically and emotionally. yunjin left early, like she always does, without saying a word. as you sit in the quiet apartment, your phone buzzes on the table.
chaewon: hey, are you free today? thought maybe we could grab coffee?
you hesitate for a moment before replying. it’s been a while since you’ve seen her—since you’ve seen anyone, really. yunjin has this way of isolating you, of making you feel like you don’t need anyone else.
but you need to get out. you need air.
you: yeah, i’d like that.
chaewon has been there, picking up the pieces where yunjin left them scattered. she’s gentle in a way that makes your heart ache, always knowing when to check in without overwhelming you. the two of you have been spending more time together, and as much as you try not to think about it, there’s something warm in the way she looks at you—something that makes you feel like maybe you deserve better than the chaos that yunjin left behind.
but yunjin doesn’t like to be replaced. she doesn’t like to lose.
the café is quiet, the soft hum of conversation filling the air as you and chaewon sit across from each other. she’s laughing at something you said, her hand resting casually on the table, fingers just inches from yours. you find yourself glancing at them, wondering what it would feel like if you just reached out.
“you’ve got that look on your face again,” chaewon teases, and you can’t help but smile back, the tension in your chest loosening for the first time in days.
before you can respond, the door chimes behind you, and your heart drops before you even turn around. you don’t need to look to know it’s yunjin. you can feel her presence, the tension in the air thickening immediately.
chaewon stops mid-sentence, her eyes flicking toward the entrance. you glance over your shoulder, and your heart drops.
yunjin is standing by the door, her face unreadable, but the air around her feels thick with something dangerous. her eyes narrow slightly as she locks onto the sight of you and chaewon, fingers still loosely intertwined on the table.
“y/n,” yunjin says, her voice sharp as she walks over, ignoring the people watching the sudden tension. she looks down at your hands, still linked with chaewon’s, and her jaw clenches. “what the hell is this?”
chaewon immediately pulls her hand away, but she doesn’t flinch or back down. her gaze stays steady, even though you can see her fingers twitching slightly, like she’s ready to defend you if it comes to that.
“it’s not what you think,” you say, trying to keep your voice calm, but the way yunjin’s looking at you makes your stomach twist with anxiety.
“oh, it looks exactly like what i think,” yunjin spits, her eyes flicking between you and chaewon. her tone is venomous, dripping with jealousy and anger. “so this is where you’ve been, huh? running to her the second i’m not around?”
you feel your throat tighten, the words stuck there. the worst part is you don’t even know if she’s wrong. you did run to chaewon—but only because yunjin kept pushing you away, breaking you down with every cold night and every dismissive word. but none of that matters right now. all that matters is the look on yunjin’s face, a storm brewing behind her eyes.
“yunjin, you don’t understand,” chaewon says, her voice calm but firm. she stands up, stepping in front of you slightly, like she’s trying to shield you from yunjin’s wrath. “this isn’t about that. y/n just needed someone to talk to.”
yunjin lets out a bitter laugh, crossing her arms over her chest. “talk? that’s what you call it? looks more like you’ve been waiting for this chance.” her eyes are locked on chaewon now, the anger in her voice barely contained. “you’ve always been hanging around, haven’t you?”
“yunjin, this isn’t—” chaewon starts, but yunjin cuts her off with a bitter laugh.
“don’t even start, chaewon. i’ve seen the way you look at her. you think you’re so much better, don’t you? waiting for me to screw up so you can swoop in and play the hero?” yunjin’s words are dripping with venom, and her eyes are wild with jealousy and anger.
chaewon’s jaw tightens, but she keeps her voice calm. “it’s not about that. y/n just needed someone, and i was there.”
“oh, you were there?” yunjin scoffs, leaning in closer, her eyes narrowing. “how convenient for you. but you know what, chaewon? you don’t know her like i do. you don’t know what she needs.”
chaewon doesn’t flinch, meeting yunjin’s glare head-on. “and you do? because from where i’m standing, all you’ve done is hurt her.”
you feel the tension between them like a live wire, sparking and crackling in the air. it’s suffocating, and the worst part is, you know this isn’t just about you anymore. this is about control, about possession. about who gets to have you.
“don’t act like you’re so innocent,” yunjin snaps, turning her attention back to you, her eyes filled with something ugly, something twisted. “you think i don’t see what you’re doing? playing the victim, acting like i’m the bad guy? but you’re the one who can’t make up your mind, always looking for someone to blame.”
the words hit you like a slap, and you feel your chest tighten with that familiar anxiety. yunjin always knows where to strike, always knows how to twist the knife just right.
“you’ve been pulling this shit for months,” she continues, her voice rising. “first it’s me, then it’s her, and then it’ll be someone else. because that’s what you do, isn’t it? you can’t handle being alone, so you keep running to whoever’s available.”
“that’s not true,” you say, your voice barely above a whisper, but even as you say it, part of you wonders if maybe yunjin’s right. maybe you have been running from one person to the next, trying to fill the emptiness that’s been growing inside you.
chaewon stands, her expression hardening as she steps between you and yunjin, her presence a shield. “she doesn’t deserve this, yunjin.”
“oh, so now you’re her knight in shining armor?” yunjin sneers, stepping closer. “you think you’re gonna save her from me? you think you’re better for her?”
chaewon doesn’t back down, her voice low and steady. “i think she deserves someone who doesn’t tear her down every chance they get.”
yunjin’s lips curl into a twisted smile, and she tilts her head, looking between the two of you with cold, calculating eyes. “you think she’s gonna choose you? you really think she’ll stick around once she realizes you’re just as fucked up as i am?”
chaewon’s expression falters for a second, and yunjin sees it. she presses forward, her voice lowering to a dangerous whisper. “she needs me. she always has. and you… you’re just a distraction.”
“yunjin, stop,” you finally find your voice, standing up, your heart racing as you step out from behind chaewon. “this isn’t about choosing between you and chaewon. this is about you. about how you’ve been treating me. i’m tired of feeling like i have to tiptoe around you all the time, tired of never knowing when you’re going to snap at me.”
yunjin’s eyes darken, her fists clenching at her sides. “so what? you’re done with me now? you think you’re gonna be happy with her?” she gestures toward chaewon, who’s watching the exchange with guarded eyes.
you don’t know what to say. part of you wants to scream that yes, you’re done, that you’re sick of the way yunjin makes you feel like you’re never enough. but another part of you… another part of you isn’t ready to let go. not yet.
“you can’t leave me,” she says, her voice shaking just enough to make you pause. “you won’t.”
chaewon steps forward, her hand brushing yours again, a silent offer of support. but you feel trapped, caught between the two of them, and no matter which way you turn, someone is going to get hurt.
“y/n, you don’t have to keep doing this,” chaewon says softly, her voice pulling you out of the spiral of thoughts. “you deserve better.”
“don’t listen to her,” yunjin’s voice cuts in, sharp and desperate. “she doesn’t know you like i do. we can fix this. we can fix us.”
your heart feels like it’s being pulled in two different directions, and for a moment, you wish you could just disappear. because no matter what you say, no matter what you choose, it’s going to break someone.
you bolted out of the café, the suffocating tension inside unbearable as everything hit you at once—yunjin’s indifference, her lies, and chaewon’s gaze on you, so full of unspoken words. the rain hit your skin in cold, stinging drops, but it felt better than the air inside, heavy with the weight of what just happened. you didn’t know where you were going, you just needed to breathe. needed to be away from it all.
you barely made it a few steps down the street before you heard the door swing open behind you. footsteps pounded against the wet pavement, frantic and uneven, and when you turned, there she was.
her voice cracked as she called after you, her feet slipping slightly on the slick ground as she rushed toward you, her hair already plastered to her face from the rain. she looked like a mess, her face red, her breath coming out in gasps. she was soaked within seconds, but she didn’t care. her eyes were fixed on you, wide and desperate, like you were slipping away from her too fast.
“please,” she cried, her voice shaking. “please don’t leave me. i—i can’t… i can’t lose you like this.”
you stopped, your heart twisting painfully at the sight of her. chaewon stumbled closer, her hand reaching out like she was afraid you’d disappear if she didn’t grab hold of you right then. her eyes were wild, full of panic, full of something more—something that had been there all along, but you’d been too wrapped up in yunjin to notice.
“chaewon…” you murmured, barely able to get the words out. seeing her like this—so broken, so raw—made it hard to breathe.
she fell to her knees right in front of you, her hands gripping at your legs, shaking as the rain continued to pour. her voice was hoarse, barely above a whisper, but it cut right through the sound of the storm.
“i love you,” she choked out, her head bowing as her body trembled. “i’ve loved you for so long, and i’ve watched yunjin hurt you over and over, and i just—i couldn’t stand it anymore. please, y/n… don’t go back to her. i’ll do anything, anything you want. just… please, let me love you.”
her words hit you like a wave, knocking the breath out of you. chaewon, on her knees in the middle of the street, sobbing and begging for you. the rain wasn’t the only thing soaking her cheeks now—her tears mixed with it, her lips trembling as she struggled to speak through her cries.
“i’m sorry,” chaewon gasped, her voice breaking with each word. “i know i’m not enough, i know you’ve been with her for so long, but i swear… i swear i’d never hurt you like she does. i’d never let you cry yourself to sleep waiting for me. please, y/n…”
your chest tightened, the sight of her making your heart ache in a way you couldn’t ignore. she was everything yunjin wasn’t—soft, open, vulnerable. and here she was, completely falling apart at your feet, just for a chance to love you.
“chaewon…” you whispered, kneeling down in front of her, your hands gently reaching for her arms. she flinched slightly, like she didn’t expect you to touch her, but when she realized it was you, her body slumped forward, collapsing into your arms like she couldn’t hold herself up anymore.
“i’m so sorry,” she cried, her face buried in your shoulder, her hands clutching your shirt as if she were afraid you might push her away. “please, y/n, just let me love you. i’ll be better for you, i promise. i’ll be anything you need.”
you held her, feeling the way her body shook against yours, her sobs tearing through the air. she was taller than you, but right now, she felt so small—so fragile, like she might break apart in your arms. you could feel her heart racing, her breaths coming out in sharp, ragged gasps, and you just wanted to hold her tighter, to make her believe that she wasn’t nothing, that she mattered.
“chaewon, it’s okay,” you whispered, your voice soft as you gently cupped her face, lifting her tear-streaked gaze to meet yours. “i’m here.”
chaewon shook her head, her wet hair sticking to her cheeks as more tears spilled down. “no, you’re not… not really. you’re still with her, and i—i don’t deserve you, but god, i want you. i want to be the one who makes you happy.”
she was rambling, her words broken and jumbled, but you heard the sincerity in every syllable. the pain, the longing. everything she’d been holding back was pouring out now, and it was overwhelming.
you wiped the tears from her cheeks, your thumbs brushing her skin gently. “chaewon, i’m not going back to her,” you whispered, the words feeling heavy on your tongue but freeing at the same time. “i’m done.”
chaewon’s breath hitched, her eyes widening in disbelief, like she couldn’t quite process what you were saying. “you… you’re done with her?”
you nodded, and something in her seemed to break. her face crumpled, and she let out another sob, pulling you into her arms so tightly you could barely breathe. her taller frame enveloped you, her body still shaking, but this time it wasn’t just from the tears—it was from the relief, the hope.
“i’m sorry,” chaewon whispered again, her voice muffled against your skin. “i’m so sorry for being like this, for begging. i just… i couldn’t lose you.”
“you’re not losing me,” you murmured, hugging her back just as tightly, feeling her warmth seep into you despite the cold rain. “i’m right here.”
and for the first time in what felt like forever, it wasn’t a lie. you were here, with her, and somehow, that felt right.
the rain continued to fall, but neither of you moved. chaewon held you close, her tears finally subsiding as she rested her chin on your head, her breathing evening out. her arms stayed wrapped around you, protective, gentle, and for the first time, you allowed yourself to feel safe.
