“Do not touch me!” She swatted away his hands, even if the lack of support sent her stumbling. Her arms reached out for something to grasp but ultimately she ended up with nothing to support herself but the nearby wall. A resounding snap filled the alley along with a muffled cry of pain from Varania herself.
Her entire body shivered from the pain and she could almost feel the thin veil of shock rolling over her. Slowly she she slid down the wall until she sat on the cold dirt, clutching at her formerly fractured now certainly broken arm. A hiss pained hiss escaped her as her eyes darted between Fenris and the mouth of the alleyway. They weren’t terribly far from the alienage, under normal circumstances she could have at least made an attempt at running.
As it was, Varania had no chance of that at the moment, she wasn’t even entirely sure that her legs would support her if she attempted to stand. The realization of that had her shaking from more than just shock as it hit her that she was trapped, physically defenseless with a man who had once shown no hesitation at the thought of killing her.
Breathing now speeding into panicked wheezes she summoned what mana she could focus on and flexed her hands to channel her magic. The pain of moving her fingers on her broken arm was excruciating but the action did it’s job as a barrier flickered into existence around her.
Fenris stepped back, eyes widening for a moment as he put his hands up where she could see them - though it did little to coax Varania.. if anything, just the opposite. The snap that echoed caused his ears to twitch, his arms coming down as she slid down against the wall. Did he leave her? Did he offer assistance as it may?
He dared another step as she looked around - perhaps looking for her attacker. The flick of the barrier stopped his tracks, brows narrowing slightly at it before eyeing her once more.
Part of him pitied her. Another didn’t. He was told he would hate himself forever if he had killed her when he did, but this woman was a stranger to him.
“It’s Fenris, Varania. What happened to you?” He repeated again, keeping exactly where he was and a distance away from the barrier. She needed attention - and no one helped elves.
