Playing this week's Rudiment - the Cheese Berger! #rudimentoftheweek www.ninjadrummist.com/drum-rudiments/hybrid-rudiments/cheese-berger-222/ It's a Paradiddle with Cheese on the second note of each. This rudiment is named after it's originator Dr. Fritz Berger who is famous for bringing many of the Swiss Rudiments to our attention. He also devised a new notation system for the snare drum called the "Berger-Notation System" or "The Monolinear System of Notation". Also known as a Cheese Berger Lesson 25. April Music Musings

Music Packaging

There's something peculiar about the state of music today.  One thing that is lost in the advent of the single-song iTunes download, or even in the downloading of an entire CD's worth of tunes, is the packaging.  Gone are the days when an artist could create a cohesive set of music, concept album, etc., include art work and liner notes that aided and expanded the painting of the musical picture.  Honestly, this is just a shame.  Today's artist is relegated to selling themselves in a two or three minute snap-shot.  Sometimes it's enough.  Sometimes it isn't.  Packaging is still available if you choose to purchase the full CD (as in hard copy), but most don't choose this option anymore.  I'd like you to think about re-considering.  Try to purchase an entire CD and then see what you think from there.

A Great Additional Blog Resource

One of the great things about Tumblr is the ability to discover like-minded bloggers and posters.  So here is a shameless plug for one of my favorite bloggers. If you have not checked out Lesson25 Music, give the blog a try now.  I'm always pleasantly surprised to find both new and old music of high quality here.  There is thoughtful commentary here, too.  Certainly more commentary than I  provide these days.
