I swear I don’t remember hearing about NAIDOC until I went to Carnarvon in my 20s and it was happening the very week I was there visiting Carnarvon High School. I feel like the public education system failed me there because it’s existed since 1975. Years before I was born. And it took over 2 decades to hear about it. As an adult I continue to learn far more about Indigenous culture and history (and the atrocities committed against them) than I did in school even when we had lessons about Indigenous Australians.

New espionage laws have passed thanks to the support of both major parties, which could lead to peaceful protesters arrested and journalists jailed for 15 to 20 years.
