The idea of creating the first Black vampires in a mainstream LGBTQ gothic drama show, knowing how important milestones in media like this are to Black people, infusing those characters with lovable qualities and relatable traumas, and then selling out to white supremacy and letting down all of your Black fans. This is just so sad and mean.

Also, regarding Rolin's words sourced from this post by @usaginoir ( thank you so much for watching After Dark 🙏) :

"Rolin says basically that maybe it felt nothing happened but that’s only because Lestat has such a strong “armor” and doesn’t want to look inside himself and that they need another season to actually explore him as a character"

Part of developing a character is figuring things like this out before you commit to writing the story, asking yourself questions like "she's tough but what would make her crack?", "he never cries but what could push hime to that point?" And if he couldn't figure that out in roughly 7 hours of television then he's not going to figure it out next season, that's not happening, and I'm not waiting two years for that shit.

And comparing the good seasons to"two old guys in a room talking" like it's a bad thing. I'm an amateur genealogist and historian, I can tell you that you get two old anybodies in a room, women, men, enbies, hell parrots even, and a youngster can learn a lot of cool shit. That was what was fun about those seasons! The history, the memories, the brick-a-brack on the shelves and the details, the transportation back in time à la the smooth, erudite narration of Louis de Pointe du Lac, this was art! I mean, I thought that that was why we wrote immortal characters, because of the fantasy of finding some lost soul who remembers all of it and can tell us about it.

I don't think Hannah's going to do anything for Akasha or Claudia, not even performatively. She's just as bad as Rolin Jones.

I think what scares me most about Lestat fans is their stubborn loyalty. They claim to understand media analysis, yet even when the show has screamed that Lestat was wrong, hell even when Lestat himself admits it, they deny it. They claim to be antiracist and then they speak over Black people who ridicule a fictional character. They claim to support LGBTQ+ rights and then they ignore the ways Lestat weaponizes his masculinity and attraction to women in order to harm or intimidate other LGBTQ+ people ( I have thoughts later on the shower scene and Lestat as bisexual representation ). They claim to care about the marginalized and abused members of society and then they prop up concepts like mutual abuse, as if it is ever acceptable to physically attack a teenage girl for wanting your mistreated partner to leave you and then beating and nearly killing your partner for fighting back. These are not ignorant or uninformed people : these are dedicated readers, some of them a decade or more older than I am, some with college degrees, these are people who can create art and organize fandom events. This is a deliberate choice to ignore, silence and manipulate information. This is targeted, coordinated and strategic harassment, bigotry and oppression, all continuations of more than a century of white supremacist tactics. These people are as conniving as Lost Cause proponents.

Why is SR asking AZ about that carving part of the s2 finale even as a "joke"? AZ had nothing to do with that awful writing and even he didn't know why that had to be added, just said to ask Rolin and Hannah.

Why the hell are actors of color constantly expected to answer for the racist writing choices of white people? I'm annoyed.

Well, to be perfectly honest, SR is too cowardly to confront the writers, so he confronts his co-star instead. He can be amazingly ignorant and rude about these topics, hence that line in my bio.

Regarding the person you mentioned ..part of white privilege that people seem to forget constantly is that as a white person he can reap the benefits of being favored by his employer and this industry (whether he "likes it" or not), and the few occasions he'll say anything at all (even the most simple truth such as "oh my coworkers should be talked about more") earns him praise for being woke, all while everything goes back to being the same. It's white privilege to do the bare minimum when it's convenient while POC can barely say anything negative at all without having it affect their careers.

Precisely! And we're not hurting him by discussing this, exactly BECAUSE of his white privilege!
