In 1936, Missouri sculptor Lester Gaba made a plaster mannequin and named her Cynthia. She joined society’s A-list. She went to parties at trendy clubs, where she was given drinks. Men bought her fine jewelry. Photographers shot pictures of her at the theater and on Fifth Avenue. In 1942, Cyntha was broken in an accident, much to Gaba’s relief, as he had gotten tired of her.
