His gaze shifted away from the letter in his hands to acknowledge her words.  “Thank you.”  The thanks was barely audible, although the appreciation was there.  That was a sentiment that Sirius hadn’t felt in a long time and certainly never from someone that was actually family to him.  Even stranger than that to the man was that he never expected to feel similarly towards a relative, especially one with such a strong biological connection to Bellatrix.  Still, he couldn’t deny that the young witch had managed to grow on him.  Plus, Sirius definitely needed support after everything he had been through in Azkaban.

At this point, if things worked out well and Voldemort were dealt with, he may even offer to take her in with Harry, or at least provide a place for her to visit on occasion.  Unfortunately, things didn’t seem like they would be settling down any time soon and more people were dying daily.  Sirius was simply determined to make sure that Druella and Harry would make it out of this mess.  Ideally he and Remus, as well as others would too, but getting those two young ones through this were his main goal, even if that meant that he wouldn’t make it with them.  Not like he would share that thought with either of them though.  

“I plan to stick by your side through this as well.”  As much as he could anyways.

Her pitiful pleas doesn’t arouse mercy from The Dark Lord. His cape behind him rattles. Black tendrils reach around like Voldemort’s extended arms. They grab the young woman, wrapping round her upper body and closing around her slender throat. As if trying to smother her words.

Lord Voldemort step forward. He likes to watch the dullness of death in his victim's eyes. Only his own brighten upon a closer look. There is something familiar about that face.

“I know you.” He mutters. 

At his wordless command her hanging body is pulled closer. He lifts a claw hand closer to her face.

“Bellatrix’s muggle loving brat.”

DAPHNE WAS NESTLED AGAINST THE soft green velvet of the Slytherin chaise lounge , her forehead all but glued to the book she had been feverishly devouring for the majority of the day . Truthfully , she did not know precisely how long she had been there . Being submerged by the lake , the common room scarcely indicated the time of day ; even at high noon the room was cloaked by a peaceful darkness . 

She paid little mind to her surroundings , far too engrossed in the tale being spun across the pages before her . It was in these moments that Daphne felt truly blissful . Time seemed to lose all meaning when she was tucked away in her ‘ forever night ’ . No cause for rush and nowhere to be other than in front of a glorious fire ; basking contendely in its warm glow . 

The room was by no means silent . There were plenty of fellows students around her , all chattering away in their own private conversations . Not one of them roused her enough for her to even lift her gaze from the page . That was until , the unmistakable , dulcet tones of Druella reached her . She immediately flit her gaze upward , locking eyes with her dear friend . ❝ Ella . ❞ Almost reflexively , the corners of her lips twisted into a grin . 

❝ A walk? Sounds delightful , I could probably do with stretching my legs . ❞ Absentmindedly , she closed the hardback , placing it on a nearby table . Seconds ago , finishing it had been all she could think of , but now it somehow seemed significantly less important to do so . 

❝ Where would you like to go ? ❞

Daphne lay still in the darkness of the dorm , her chest rising and falling peacefully like a wave laps gently at the shore during low tide . It was her favourite time of day ; the night . It was a challenge to find a moment’s peace in the earlier hours of the day , but at night , all was calm . Just her , the stars , and her thoughts tucked away in a pocket of serene solitude . 

A hushed murmur pulled her from her thoughts . It was barely a whisper , that pierced the silence of the room - though it was rather unexpected - and caused her frame to flinch . Her alarm swiftly subsided when she identified the source of the disturbance ; Druella . A fond smile claimed her lips , as she squirmed beneath the linen in order to face her neighbour. ❝ Always . ❞ Came her reply . 

Silently - as not to disturb their fellow slumbering dorm mates - she slid out from under her covers . She grimaced slightly as the flesh of her toes pressed against the icy stone floor below her , quickening her pace to once again be enveloped in the warmth of a bed . She clambered easily beside Druella ; her teeth chattering slightly from her journey . ❝ What’s wrong ? ❞ Concern dominated her tone as she tenderly , began twisting one of Druella’s brilliant white locks around her forefinger . ❝ You’re never awake this late unless something is troubling you. ❞

         he wasn’t sirius. he hadn’t burned every bridge, and the larger wizarding community was not openly aware of his role in defeating the dark lord. a black sheep his family couldn’t get rid of. which had meant quite a few changes when he’d inherited the black properties. ‘ druella, you’re welcome to stay here for as long as you like. ‘ grimmauld place was empty save for him and kreacher, and his work kept him away from home for long hours. from what he could remember of the elder lestrange matriarch, she wasn’t a pleasant woman to spend time with.
