Finally getting around to playing this wonderful game by @chaosherald-- thank you so much for creating it! It was a lot of fun-- I hope you will join in, if it sounds like something you'd enjoy! Thank you to @mythals-whore and @sandcastlekings for the tags <3
Rules:
I think most of us have a primary/canon Rook - but who would they be if they ended up with one of the other factions? How would they have ended up there? What decisions would they make differently? How would their personality change? What bits of them are immutable across timelines? What would they wear?!
Lethanavir de Riva
Leth is normally a Crow, but there are a couple points in their life where I think they could've gone a different direction! Listed from most to least likely.
Leth Aldwir
This is the most likely because it's basically what would have happened if Leth had never left their original clan. Their mentor (who was the Keeper) really liked them, and they would have attempted to train Leth as Keeper even though they are not magical (Mirthadra was too cool for rules 😎). Ultimately, though, upon their death the role would have gone to Tanaleth as the more traditional/acceptable choice. Leth would have gotten into a huge argument with her, eventually, and left.
I feel like the Veil Jumpers would honestly suit them pretty well, as it would indulge their curiosity and penchant for getting into dangerous situations lol. I do think that they would have taken the last name Aldwir, because they wouldn't want to deal with the "oh, why did you leave?" questions, or with people being able to find them easily.
I honestly think Leth Aldwir would be an angrier, more reckless version of themself. They would be upset about their clan, still, and quick to get into/pick fights with others. They probably would have left the Mayor to die, and tricked Solas instead of talking him down. They would be less used to betrayal and casual murder. I think they'd still be very curious, reckless, and loyal, but I don't think they'd have had as long of a time to get attached to Strife and Irelin, so more of a loner than they are in canon.
I did my best to utilize hats for every faction swap-- I think they'd like the horned helmet paired with the spiky armor because it's both loud and kind of... hm, dangerous? It's kind of like they're a porcupine or something lol. Less dramatic makeup for them, here, since they'd be out traipsing through the forest all the time and wouldn't have as much time for it. I forgot to change their scars, here, but I still think that long one works-- they probably got it antagonizing a construct, or by setting off something they shouldn't have tbh. Their Vallaslin is the same because they got it in large part to honor Mirthadra, so that aspect of them wouldn't change here.
Leth Laidir
I think it's likely they'd end up in Rivain the canonical way; they could have wandered off at a different time during their childhood and been captured by slavers, then rescued by the Lords. I think Leth and Isabela would get along like a house on fire, and as soon as the option was presented to do any sort of piracy? They're never going to be on land for more than a week lol.
They love getting into a bunch of dangerous situations and figuring things out on the fly, and they love telling exaggerated stories about it, afterward. They fit in really well and are having an amazing time!
This is probably the most chill and pleasant version of Leth. When they get pissed they get to take it out on people; there's not really anyone telling them what to do, there's money and time to spend it. The Lords are friendly, so they have more people in their corner, overall. They're just way more laid back, here. They'd probably tend towards the quest resolutions that seem like they'll get their friends closest to their goals, and are reflective of them highly valuing freedom and self-determination. I think they would mostly keep the canon of sparing as many people as possible, here.
Wooow so there are like NO LoF armors?? Really sad bc the style is very cool =( I wanted something sturdier for them than the peacock cape one, and I like how well the colors match with the head scarf. They'd want something that still allowed them to show off their glitter, but also doesn't get in their way when fighting + isn't miserable to wear in the heat of Rivain lol. Lots of makeup here, as well, but in a different style + colors that match their outfit better. The scars are definitely from a raid. They have a billion tattoos and get more all the time-- it's part of how they record/show off their stories and victories. Please imagine that their hair is still curly-- I love that texture-- I wish there were more styles like that!
Leth Mercar
I think there is a non-zero chance that the "abandoned on a battlefield" thing could have happened to them on accident, but they would NOT have enjoyed their life as a Mercar. They would be the most disagreeable and disobedient soldier ever. 5 months tops to dishonorable discharge tbh. Since they wouldn't have their weird obsessive thing with Viago, I think they'd end up having a lot of friction with their adoptive family, even if everyone had the best possible intentions. Growing up in Minrathous would probably not be fun for a lot of reasons, and Leth is bad at expressing themself so they'd probably end up being combative and avoidant, in turns.
I think they'd just sort of wind up with the Dragons due to having similar goals and a willingness to attack any Venatori regardless of consequences. If the Knight Captain won't arrest Bataris, Leth will put a knife through his throat and then the problem will be over =P
Similarly to de Riva Leth, there is not an idealistic bone left in their body. They would tell Neve to work with the Threads and choose Dorian to be Archon. I guess the biggest change in their playthough would be that they would definitely save Minrathous. Even though they hate a lot of things about it, it's their home and they would never be able to abandon it. I also think Leth Mercar would only romance Neve.
I took off all their makeup for this one and shortened their hair as a holdover from doing military stuff. You can't take the Drama out of the Leth, so they still get a long cape and fancy, thematic weapons lol. They have nearly-fatal neck scars in this one, and probably just the one snake tattoo, as a marker of commitment.
Leth Ingellvar
Ironically, I think this would be extremely unlikely (despite the fact that Leth was originally an Ingellvar lol). I think they would have had to have been raised there, because I don't think they would willingly end up there as an adult. While Leth de Riva thinks that the Necropolis is incredibly cool, they wouldn't ever stay there while they were alive because of the academia of it all lol. If they had been left there as a child, they definitely would have enjoyed the exploration and interacting with all of the spirits, but they would not be sitting still for lessons. They would resent having to spend so much time on academic pursuits, and I think they'd be bouncing off the walls of the place honestly lol. I can see them getting taken in by Hexenkoss pretty easily, tbh-- at least she's entertaining ! She hates rules and doesn't care what the Watchers tell her she should be doing, and that would greatly appeal to Leth.
I think they'd be really hostile toward Emmrich, at first, as a Watcher, at least in part out of jealousy that he's sort of everything that a Watcher is supposed to be, and they would not be. But I think he'd win them over, after a while. I also think they'd save Minrathous in this timeline, and probably end up with Bellara? They'd probably also be a bit more naive about things, generally + be a more earnest/open person.
I changed their Vallaslin back to their original Falon'din, here, because I think it would be more of an attempt to reconnect with their culture, in this scenario, and also to marry it with being a Watcher. They'd want their hair out of their way but not care enough to cut it or anything, so messy bun for sure. I actually think they probably wouldn't have many scars, here, and only the Vallaslin for tattoos. One thing they WOULD really like about being a Watcher are the Spooky Vibes so I left their makeup and tried to go all in with the Mourn Watch attire for them. I think they would get a kick out of freaking ppl from outside the Necropolis out with the mask lol
Leth Thorne
There is no universe where Leth willingly becomes a Warden lol. If they're there, it's either because 1) they got Tainted and Viago literally ordered them to undergo the Joining, or 2) They were taken in by the Wardens as a child. If they were to grow up there, they would chafe against the rules and the secrecy and the grim nature of the whole thing, but they would feel a sense of obligation/loyalty to the Order for helping them. They'd be very passionate about and invested in influencing the direction the Order moved in during/after VG. If they were ordered to be there, absolutely nothing but resentment from them. They would kill Darkspawn but not much else; they would resent that the Order presents themselves as purely selfless and heroic when they would know otherwise. The more they learned about the Order, the worse this would get.
Either way, there would be a lot of impassioned arguing with Davrin about the Order's fundamental purpose/nature. I do think that a Warden-raised Leth would keep the griffons with the Wardens. Both versions would save Treviso and talk Solas down, though for different reasons.
I was thinking about a Leth that was raised with the Wardens, when I made them, here-- again, more utilitarian wrt the hair, makeup + tattoos. They still get to have a sort-of cape thing, and a big hat for the Aesthetic lol.
Whew, all done! This was really fun-- I think most people have already done this, but @erin-unknown, @dymme, @uchidachi, @ofcrowsanddragons, @ladyinthebluebox, @zennihilation, @gaymingbinosaur, @covertleathers, @flowersforthemachines, if you haven't, already, and it sounds fun, then please join in !
Okay so yesterday broodwolf was asking about pokemon teams, and I made one up for Leth. They don't care about good party comp at all and have a bunch of poisonous misfit weirdos <3
BUT I also really like trying to make pokemon teams work. When I play the games, I try to spec each pokemon so that it HYPOTHETICALLY, MIGHT be able to kill something, by itself. And then it usually doesn't work, but I do my best. Anyway, I replaced Galarian Stunfisk with Toxapex (which, in fact, makes the party comp worse, lol) but I kept everything else and I tried to figure out a setup where Leth could hypothetically win with these guys
Disclaimer I am not a competitive pkmn person so this is me just Doing My Best, but it was fun! Anyway, Here's How These Losers Can Still Win:
Made on this website! This isn't really a tag game, but I invite others to play, if they want! I know... most moves? And I have a comprehensive pokedex app on my phone, so maybe can help with moves/items/abilities, if you want
have discovered while writing Weird Forks that modern!Leth's response to being injured is DIY-ing a solution with the nearest available home and office supplies
staples and duct tape 👍(dont take first aid advice from them lol. They are giving all of their friends stress migraines)
Did not get toooo much work done on stream today lol, but I played through Taash's final companion quest, if anyone would like a refresher on that ! Pretty minimal commentary. Dual wielding rogue Rook at max level. Also, for the Leth enjoyers, this is their file, so you can see them in the game, if you want!
i know i am in #belposting mode rn, but it's two AM and i wanna talk about Leth's relationship with their clan, so i've come to subject you to that:
(it got long lol)
so leth's parents died in a natural disaster when they were like six, and since there weren't really any other direct relatives of theirs around, they sort of became a communal responsibility (in part because they needed that many people to look after them lol), but they especially became a favorite of their Keeper, who was also their favorite adult ( + first nonbinary person they knew)
which was fine and cool, except the Keeper had a First, and the First was jealous
(she kind of suspected that had Leth had one iota of magical ability, the Keeper would probably have apprenticed them, instead, which was not an... unfounded suspicion)
so then Leth got trapped in Treviso, became a Crow, etc, etc.
when they're a little older and calm down a bit about the Keeper having to leave them in Treviso, they return to being on good terms with their clan when they're in the area; they like feeling as though their status as a Crow confers a sort of protection on everyone
but also they still get into arguments with the Keeper and with the elder who teaches them how to tattoo, because both of them want Leth to leave the Crows, and won't stop bringing it up
Leth is already In Deep with Viago and won't leave no matter what, so they usually get into at least one fight per visit about it
this is the opinion of around half the clan, but most of them don't want to get into interminable arguments with Leth
Things sort of stay that way until the Keeper dies (just of being old), and the First, who still doesn't like Leth (mostly for adult reasons, now-- they are always blunt and opinionated) becomes Keeper
Those two argue way more, but since Viago is Fifth Talon, by that point, Leth's position has become VERY advantageous in Treviso + Salle, and the Keeper feels like she can't just tell Leth to fuck off, because she does still care about doing her job
everyone else sort of doesn't care, except they all watch them argue like it's a tennis match or something. Place bets on who is going to win the upcoming fight, and if/when the fighting is going to escalate (there are a few ppl who are convinced that the Keeper + Leth are just going to have impassioned hate sex eventually and that this will resolve all issues)
so Leth just sort of... hovers on the edge of things. They come to big events, and visit sometimes. the kids think they're the Cool Relative who has a bunch of fun stories and will let them do stuff the other adults say isn't allowed. they don't feel rejected, exactly, because they're too stubborn to consider the idea that they aren't "Dalish enough", but it is sort of a weird limbo
I do think that if they were ever to go back, the Keeper would let them stay, but they probably never would.
