Something I always wondered was if Katara and Sokka mom was a water bender or not. I know that sounds dumb but listen, in season one when Katara is talking to Haru, she talks about how water bending makes her feel closer to her mother, implying her mom was a bender too and that's where Katara got her powers. At least that's what I always thought. But then in southern raiders, we see Kya sacrificed herself to save Katara. Katara says her mother was protecting the last water bender, which we know is Katara, not her mom. the southern raiders had some kind of spy saying there was only one left. So that means it was either Katara they were talking about, or there was misinformation and Kataras ability wasnt known outside her family yet. Was Kya a water bender and said she was the last one, or was she a non bender that was protecting katara?
