Dear Shadowheart,

Good to hear from you again! Before anything else, no need to say sorry. I know how daunting it can be to plan a wedding, so I'm not surprised it was hard on Lae'zel. Hope she's doing better now!

Of course, Aylin and I are happy for you both and send our most excited congratulations. There will be other opportunities for us to celebrate your love together. And yes, obviously Aylin told me everything about the ritual. She says she never saw two lovers find each other in the woods so easily, so I understand more congratulations are in order. Our Lady of Silver is clearly your biggest supporter!

On a completely different note, I must apologize for how long it's taken me to respond to your last message, but I have a good reason for it. Our two moonbeams, as we like to call them, were born at the end of last month. Apparently, they were so eager to explore this enchanting world that they couldn't stay inside for as long as they were supposed to. They're both beautiful – but what else would you expect their mother to say! - and healthy. As for me, I'm still resting and recovering, but feeling fine. I'm being outstandingly taken care of.

Again, congratulations on your marriage and best wishes from both of us. Surely, once my energy is fully restored, we will be able to pay you a visit.

Dear sister: I befriended you when we were so small we whiled our afternoon-lives away at the daycare. Do you remember? When evening fell, we waited together for our mother to bring us home. Back then, fierce as a lion cub, I had thought: This is my sister. I must protect her and look after her. I wear my identity, elder sister, like a Girl Scouts badge, proud as a knight.

I led you behind me, bold as an adventurer exploring uncharted lands, everywhere. Harry Potter, Eragon, Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, playgrounds, movie theatres, shopping malls. You lead me now – eyes as bright as passion and enthusiasm allow – identities, social politics, theories, Percy Jackson, Captive Prince, Foxhole Court.

Have you ever wondered why friends are as close as sisters but sisters are never as close as friends?

Because – A sister like a friend makes home warm and lit and cozy as a hearth warding off the winter chill. A sister like a playmate makes home a place to chatter and play and imagine, filling your heart with cheer and noise after a long day of silence. A sister like a sister makes home a home to return to, familiar and restful and comforting as a hug.

Dear sister: I am beyond grateful and incredibly happy that we have befriended each other. How will I describe the ball of warmth in my chest, happy as teddy bears and toy rabbits – or the way my heart lightens and laughs and becomes young and playful – or my irrepressible fondness around you, sunny as puppies tumbling and playing?

Dear sister: This sistership means more to me than words can say. Thank you for letting me bare my heart, and thank you for baring yours.

Dear Isobel,

First of all, congratulations! I was really happy to hear that you and Aylin are starting a family together and I'm convinced that you'll be excellent parents. Hope the twins are not giving you too hard a time!

Other than that, how have you been? I suppose Aylin has filled you in on how the ritual went, so I won't add more unnecessary details. It was truly nice to see her again and catch up. She looked more resplendent than ever; it's clear that motherhood suits her.

Writing this letter is a little embarrassing for me, so I hope you can forgive us for this. In the end, we won't be needing either of you to officiate our wedding. Since all the preparations seemed to upset Lae'zel greatly, we decided to elope and have a very discreet one instead. It would have been lovely to celebrate our love in the company of all our friends, but I guess it's easier for everyone this way. I hope this doesn't cause you any troubles and that you're not too disappointed!

You both mean a lot to us. Even if you couldn't be there on this occasion, we're looking forward to seeing you again next time you visit the Gate. Maybe we can have our own little celebration?
