it’s almost a week that I did not write around here, it had been pretty busy. Last Thursday I get up 3:30 am to catch my 6:40 am flight to Leon, Guanajuato ( Mexico). I spend a week there, I was invited to a wedding, but another friend and I flew there to spend time with our local friend.
Irapuato is the second biggest city in the state of Guanajuato, it’s famous because of the strawberries that are harvest there ( Delicious!) You also will find that they grow broccoli, carrots, avocados and many other vegetables and fruits. The land is rich in minerals and very fertile.
The population is less than a million, but the town is rich in culture and very close to other very important and popular cities in the State like Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Leon, Atotonilco, Dolores Hidalgo. I had the chance to take a look around to these places as all are very close ( 1 to 2 hours from Irapuato)
My flight was a short one, about an hour, but the fog below was very dense, the pilot tried to land three times to land but consider it not safe so we over flight the land for about forty minutes, from above the sun was shining and the sky was so blue. Finally, we land and thank God, the drive that was still waiting for me. From the airport to Irapuato is about 45 minutes, all depends on the traffic or weather but the highway is in great condition. Finally by ten in the morning, I arrived at the hotel were my friend Ana was waiting for me, we stay in the KASA Hotel and Suites that is in downtown, is a very inexpensive place with good service and good rooms, perhaps it’s a bit noisy in the street due being close to the downtown, and the bus station. Great price breakfast included. The staff is friendly, and everything is clean. Internet wifi works.
We had breakfast and went walking to the Cathedral, and the market. In the Palacio Municipal, we found the beautiful mural call “The Revoluciones” ( The revolutions) by the local artist Salvador Almaraz.
The most beautiful temple we saw was our Lady of Solitude, is a baroque church, is a magnificent and inspiring building. There was a service so I did not have the chance to take pictures. But look for it and you will see how the entire church iconography reflects the loneliness of Mary, Mother of God.
Also, you can see very nearby the Founders Square, where you can admire the mural that tells the story of the Irapuato on the times of the viceroy.
And for souvenirs and a taste of the delicious strawberries go to the Cristalita all in walking distance.
