Smallville Lex/some modern versions = anti villain (he wants to help the world in his own way, but it's a bad way and has a bad impact)

Maggin Lex/some pre-crisis versions = anti hero (doesn't particularly care or set out to do good but sometimes his interests align with the heroes. sometimes does legitimately heroic/selfless things)

Bates Lex/also Smallville = tragic villain (on a downward spiral. can't escape his obsession and it will consume him one day)
