so there's something in the community i'd like to discuss. hopefully in a calm way. i understand of course the importance of bisexual representation in both the media and out people, as well as our erasure by the large majority of monosexuals out there, but there is a behavior the bi community has had a lot of lately that bothers me. we get so amped up reminding people that bisexuality is broad and you could have a very minute attraction to one gender and a majority attraction to another gender and still define as bisexual and very much be bisexual -- this is completely true!! we tell people to define how they are comfortable with. but when monosexual people experience that same level of attraction and decide to continue identifying as monosexual because it is the label they are comfortable with and fits their attractions best, i have noticed a lot of bis making sarcastic comments or eye rolling reactions. how is that fair? monosexuality, while not as broad as bisexuality, still falls on a spectrum. two monosexuals could fall in very different leans, for lack of better words. we have to respect a person's ultimate choice in identity just like if a non-monosexual person would rather identify as pan omni poly ambi or anything else, we have to accept that is their decision and they have their reasons. "straight/gay with an exception" is just as legitimately mono as "99% straight 1% gay" is legitimately bi. **as i am bi and only really watch bi communities, i am only tagging this as bisexual. i do not know if it applies to other non-mono communities and will not speak for them.
