Can People Explain Something for Me?

I don't understand a lot of the gender/sexuality identities and that stuff. My friends have tried to explain it (saying gender is what you identify as, sex is what you're born with) but then I get confused by transgender and transex being...different? I have tried to read about this stuff too, because I honestly want to know and avoid saying wrong things, but no where do I find understandable explanations. I don't want people to get mad at me for asking this stuff, but I've just been clueless too long and I dislike misunderstandings.

So please, if anyone can give me a brief run-down or link me to something with clear and concise explanations, just let me know.

Basically my mass media paper turned into a formal feminist/lgbt+ rant and representation in media so thats pretty cool.

kinda over the mainstream lgbtq people and egos/agendas/lack of intersectionality. i think i'm just going to go in my little corner of an already cramped room and decorate it.
