Sonam Lhosar aka Tamang New Year

In Sonam Lhosar the Tamang people visit monasteries and stupas meanwhile special rituals with mask dance are performed to drive away evil spirits. The houses and surroundings are cleaned to welcome gods and goddesses.

Tol Lhosar is the oldest of the Lhosars. 'Tol' means time cycle, 'lho' means year and 'sar' means new. Therefore, this Lhosar is also called the time cycle year. This festival is especially celebrated to welcome the new year.
