For some reason, I started the novel without intending to, and I gotta say it's a lot bleak for a wrongfully accused poor scholar wrongly accused of cheating, sent off to godforsaken Ningguta for a decade, and living on the edge of discovery and death every single month of his life after his escape back into the Central Plains.

It goes without saying that the drama is so loosely based on the novel that it ought to say, "inspired by the novel" instead of calling it an adaptation.

But I'm determined to ignore all that in favour of seeing Chen Xiao again. Even if it's mild pratfalls in the middle of an actual serious situation, as below:
