There’s little to celebrate, but it still feels like one. Enough of his favorite people in one place that he can forget that there are healing scabs on his knuckles and a man out there carrying around a picture of his brother. His dad’s still dead, he still has no one to take out all that grief and suffering on, and it seems like only a matter of time until the Initiative strikes back.

For all that, there’s still a kind of relief at standing in Left Blank with a bottle in hand. He might stand on the wrong side of the bar, but if the owners have never said a word about his presence behind the bar, regardless of whether he works here or not. Charlie does, and if anything he just finds himself putting more effort into paying more attention to his sister than the redhead that keeps trying to steal his attention. It’s easier when he’s pouring shots for both of them.

“Another?” he asks, already pouring. Any thought that maybe they both have a problem gets pushed aside, because he already knows they do. And he’s just as aware that this is the least of their sins. He went through his own painful relapse and detox after he’d run across the country to New York, and he’s almost too much of a coward to even want to ask where Lia stands with her own sobriety.

At least if she’s doing shots with him she’s not doing lines, and he can say the same.
