even though I'm a very avid reader, I have the horrible habit of skimming and it came back to bite me today bc I'm rereading darkest minds and I got to the part where ruby is telling liam about her parents/Sam and am sobbing bc I had never read the part where ruby says that she was "Sam's 'Chubs' until she wasn't" and for some reason I had never realized how close they had been(even though im also pretty sure they have a cute reunion scene in ITA but i need to reread the whole book too bc its been forever and tbh i dont remember how it ends) and it just broke my heart idk...anyway don't skim your books kids

The innocence that radiates from the first book of The Darkest Minds, even with Martin and Clancy freaking Gray, is beautiful. It's so easy to forget just where the 4 of them really began.

This quote: "Okay team, let's carpe the hell out of this diem," takes me back to the time of Black Betty and Lady Jane and socks as gifts and East River. Back to when Liam was team leader, and he did that job so well. When surviving the PSFs was the biggest worry. God, and Chubs and the maths equations they gave Zu.

And then bam! Never fade and the children's league comes and shatters that innocence, and Ruby, Chubs, Liam and Zu aren't even together anymore- as a group, Ruby is in hiding in The Darkest Legacy.

The only good things that came from the sequels were, Vida, Nico and Jude.

God. I miss them.
