Crass Tattoo by Titus Andronicus (featuring Megg Farrell) from the album A Productive Cough
Indie rock industrial complex may not be inevitable, the adjective we describe this with is self-fulfilling. I mean, I get why the musicians in this collossus of genres finish the way they do, i.e. indie rock became a set of sonic and ideological signifiers at this point. While most of the players there don't follow these 'rules' at first – there are very few also-rans in this variety of styles –, they eventually end up doing that. For instance, I am sure Titus Andronicus didn't plan their career in the vein, they merely went by like most of their peers. However, a success does shift a perspective of anyone and indie rock musicians are those with whom this happens the most. Why there, though? Well, the scene has changed since the 90's...
I just finished putting together Issue 20 of the magazine! Six years ago, I couldn't have imagined that this magazine would come as far a long as it has, and it feels incredible to be able to put out the 20th issue of the publication. This issue has involved a lot of juggling of ideas, resources, and time, and at points I thought it would never get done. But luckily I'm now sharing it with you all today! After this issue has been published I'm planning on moving to california, following a job opportunity at a record label and an opportunity to continue to grow and change the magazine. I'm not sure yet what the future holds, but I'm excited about the prospects and proud of the accomplishments in the present. Because I'm moving this fall the next issue will be postponed until the winter. I hope that by doing so I'll have a chance to redesign some of the layout and reassess how I want to keep doing the magazine from LA! This issue of the magazine has more artists and people involved than any issue in the past! I'm so incredibly trilled with all of the work everyone has contributed to this one, and I'm so proud to make the 20th issue such a special one!
