Part One Here
Summary: Liam tries to win Arabella’s heart back after discovering she is in a secret love affair with Drake.
Liam didn’t have one drop of alcohol, but he felt drunk.
Everything felt like a blurry nightmare. Please let me just wake up in my cabin, let this whole night be a horrible dream, Liam thought as he clumsily raced to the bathroom to test his theory.
He violently splashed cold water on his face to stop the images from manifesting. The icy water blinded his eyes. But Drake's thumb tracing Arabella's full lips before kissing them was still etched in his brain like a tattoo. Their fingers perfectly interlocked like untethered rope made his skin crawl.
Liam jumped at the abrupt knock on the door. Almost thankful for it.
"Monsieur, nous fermons dans cinque minutes," the bartender announced.
"Merci," Liam croaked as he gripped the sink and searched his unrecognizable reflection in the filthy mirror, while beads of water dripped on his loafers with a steady rhythm.
After leaning against the door for what felt like hours, he vowed to slip out the rear and not look back.
Yet, his feet melted into the floor when opening the door to see Drake drape his blue blazer over Arabella's toned mocha arms before exiting. It was the same act of chivalry Drake used on Savannah during the Beaumont party.
Up until now it was the only time he showed a protective, caring bone in his body for a girl. Unless calling a cab for his rare one night stands counted.
Yet, it was more than the great King Liam could offer. Drake was there. Always. When he was nuzzled comfortably in his bed at Applewood Manor, Drake was Arabella's real knight and shining armor against Tariq.
Liam backed out of the bar into a dark alley. His pout twisted into a scowl as his hand grazed the lock and key in his pants pocket.
Earlier tonight he couldn't wait to show Arabella another symbol of his everlasting love. Another promise of one day being together. A hope. A dream.
"What's the point," he wondered aloud as his pace quickened down the deserted Parisian streets. "when she's in love with someone else."
Another promise broken.
Liam walked along the bridge overlooking The Seine. His arms hung off the stone railing as his eyes were fixed across the river to the lit Eiffel tower. He gripped the lock and key and was about to let it slip between his fingers into the water, but saw her silhouette approach him.
Liam's heart skipped a beat when he saw her almond shaped eyes look at him with concern and guilt as they came closer to his.
"Arabella! I wasn't sure you'd come," Liam exclaimed wrapping his arms around her waist and ignoring the lingering scent of Drake's Old Spice cologne on her shoulder.
Arabella cautiously embraced Liam while trying so hard to hold back tears. Every fiber in her being wanted to be anywhere but in Liam's arms. About to say what she's been rehearsing in her mirror and to her corgi Chance for weeks---"Liam, you're a great guy and as much as I love our friendship. I'm in love with someone else."
Simple. Straight to the point. But as Liam's hug kept tightening she began to think he already knew she was slipping away.
"Liam, are you alright?" Arabella asked looking into his bloodshot eyes with brows furrowed.
He let out a long sigh and released all the pain he bottled up. She was here and that was all he wanted. Now he had to prove to her that he was worth staying with by doing what Drake has always done: put her first.
"Better...now that you're here but I can't stop thinking about everything that's happened," Liam revealed as he grabbed her soft french manicured fingers and blinked back thoughts of Drake canvassing Arabella's silky legs with his rough hands earlier tonight.
Liam's hands trailed his hair all the way to the back of head, hoping all the memories of Drake with Arabella would go.
"I don't know how deep this conspiracy goes or who we can trust. All I know is that I couldn't bear it if something happened to you. The only way to keep you safe might be for us to leave. Permanently."
"You can't abandon Cordonia," Arabella retorted without meeting Liam's gaze.
It was hard enough that she's the wrecking ball of a 20 year friendship between Liam and Drake. But to have him turn his back on everything and everyone he knows is too much guilt to stomach.
Liam's shoulders slumped in response.
"I know that. But if you asked me to, I would in an instant." Liam said lifting her chin for a kiss.
Arabella avoided the liplock by quickly turning her head towards the Eiffel tower. She shut her eyes so she wouldn't have to look at Liam's pained face.
"Come on 'Bella get it together," she whispered to herself as she walked over to the midnight picnic Liam was ushering her towards.
Arabella took the glass of champagne with sweaty palms. She took a long sip of while nervously sliding hands over her slicked back tresses.
"Liam--"
"No, I want to make a toast to you, Arabella. " Liam interjected, raising his champagne flute towards her. "The most unforgettable woman I've ever met. Even with everything we've been through and everything that's in our way...there's nowhere else I'd rather be."
Arabella's face turned beet red.
"Wow, that's ah...tough act to follow...umm" she laughed nervously while twisting the champagne flute in her hand.
An awkward silence fell upon them as Arabella searched for the words.
To you, a caring, considerate king that any girl would give their right arm to have, except her because she was falling deeper and deeper in love with his best friend.
"I'll um drink to that," Arabella quickly raised the flute towards Liam and avoided looking into his desperately expectant eyes that slowly became crestfallen.
Liam put on a forced smile and quickly downed his champagne. He turned the conversation to lighter fare like the infamous Beaumont bashes of the past, and Maxwell's creative ways of opening champagne bottles.
Arabella and Liam's laughter throughout the meal helped lighten their heavy load. It felt just like their first date. With walls slowly coming down they decided to end the night by walking further along the bridge.
Liam slowly closed the distance between them by clutching her arm. They walked arm in arm as they ventured down the bridge's path.
They stopped when they got to a railing adorned with various locks.
"Look!" Arabella exclaimed pointing to all the different sizes, shapes and colors of each lock. Making a beautiful tapestry of a declared bond that will never be broken.
"I've heard stories about those."
"They're supposed to be a symbol of commitment. Everyone who's left one on a bridge trusted their love so much that they were willing to throw away the key. Which reminds me."
Liam reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the gold lock and key.
With hands shivering he held them out to a wide-eyed Arabella.
"Perhaps it's silly, but this was one of my ideas for tonight. I brought a lock for us"
"You did?!" Arabella croaked hesitantly taking it out of Liam's hands to examine it.
"It's beautiful," she whispered trying to swallow the lump in her throat.
"Technically you aren't allowed to place them on bridges anymore, but that clearly hasn't stopped everyone. And there's something about you that makes me willing to bend the rules." Liam says, while stroking her auburn cheek.
"Tu es l'amour de m vie, Arabella"
"I have no idea what that means," she muttered with her eyes fixed on the lock.
"I spent a while practicing that one. It means, you're the love of my life" Liam slowly recited as he delicately lifted Arabella's small chin so their eyes could be level.
Liam cleared his throat.
"So...shall we leave our mark on Paris?"
Arabella swallowed hard. Her heartbeat thundered through her ears.
"I uh...think...we should uh..." Arabella fiddled with the lock as she stumbled her words. "keep the lock because I'd hate to see the King of Cordonia arrested for vandalism on my account."
Liam shuffled his feet and feigned a chuckle.
"It would be a Cordonian first...but you're right."
Arabella lifted her palm adorned with the lock towards Liam.
"I know how I feel about you, Arabella. I don't need a lock on a bridge to demonstrate that. This can be our momento." Liam says softly.
He gently closed Arabella's fingers around the lock. She held her breath as she tucked it in her purse.
Chris Hemsworth as King Liam
One Long Night Pt. 1 Liam x MC x Drake
Synopsis: Liam discovers MC and Drake are secretly hooking up the night of his bachelor party. Setting in motion a chain of events that is life changing for Cordonia
Liam shoved his hands in the side pockets of his Burberry trench, he quickly grabbed as he jetted out of his bachelor party. Hoping to catch up with Drake and Arabella as they were roughly escorted out.
There was no sign of their limo. Only paparazzi waiting for a million dollar shot–likely one of him stumbling out of the party half unconscious. Before they could spot him he turned his collar up, and moved steadily down the cobblestone streets. Grateful for the echo his loafers were making against narrow, picturesque buildings. It helped distract him from the rage boiling in his belly.
How could Bastien even think of strong arming his lady love? And giving the boot to Drake, who was practically his son?
Liam’s fists clenched in his pockets as he recalled the look of confusion and anger contort Arabella’s usually beautiful heart-shaped face. All he wanted to do was reach out and caress it, but Bastien was a major stumbling block. The guards surrounded him as if his two closest confidants were enemies of the state, rather than friends of the Cordonian court.
“As your sworn monarch, make certain that display of overzealous action is never to be directed at my friends again, clear?” Liam barked in Bastien’s direction.
Bastien locked eyes with Liam and mumbled his regrets. Not long after he sheepishly watched as the Prince darted out the party, already knowing not to follow.
Several blocks later Liam stood outside Drake’s favorite dive bar in Paris. He could bet on his brother’s life Drake was inside convincing Arabella that whiskey was a cure all.
He found them at the end of the bar; Entranced in conversation. As the distance closed between him and them, it was like seeing them for the first time. Drake looking longingly at Arabella like a flame had ignited in his soul. Causing a spark that awakened a new man. Arabella hanging on Drake’s every word like a bee to honeysuckle; drinking in his every essence.
As their bodies inched closer to each other, Liam’s became paralyzed. Everything moved in slow motion, including Arabella and Drake’s drinking game.
“Never have I ever imagined someone in this bar naked,” Arabella offered with her full pouty lips curved in a flirty smile.“Yes?”
Drake takes a long sip of his whiskey.
“You never go easy on me, do you Montgomery?” Drake counters with lustful eyes.
“Nope”
Liam ran his hands through his hair and leaned back in a chair he doesn’t remember sitting in. His chest tightened as he watched Arabella’s boisterous laugh send tremors to his heart.
How come he never made her laugh like that? How did he not notice their undeniable chemistry before? Perhaps he did and chose not to admit it to himself. Thinking back on Drake’s insistence in going to New York to bring Arabella back wasn’t for him or her…it was for them. The long gazes they exchange at practically every court event, which he assumed were awkward greetings. And their sheer determination not to lay a finger on each other in his presence.
“My…God,” he whispered to himself as he pressed his thumb and index fingers to the corners of his eyes. Hoping to catch the tears before they escaped.
“All.this. time Liam shuddered, letting reality sink in for the first time. "All this time the one thing I was sure of was our love. The only thing I trusted”
He fiddled with his engagement ring as his eyes glued on the two most important people in his life sharing a tantalizing kiss like a couple on a honeymoon.
“You don’t make this easy.” Drake confesses.
“I dunno it seemed pretty easy to me…” Arabella ribbed, batting her false lashes and hoping for another taste of Drake’s luscious tongue she always craved.
“Very funny. I mean, trying to control how I feel about you. I can’t”
Liam realized in that bombshell moment neither could he.
It’s you, it’s you, it’s all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
