Arlenne Cassandra Westwood is a 18 year old girl from Manchester, England.
Sheās an orphan, living alone with her mother. Thereās nothing particularly special about Arlenne, sheās just an ordinary teenager with a pretty ordinary life.
One day, on her way to Petersburg High School, Arlenne receives a call on her phone. Her mother has been in a car accident and is now in the emergency room. Panicked, Arlenne rushes to the hospital, but sheās too late. She doesnāt even get the chance to see her mother one last time.
She buries her mother near their home. The very next day, debt collectors start calling. It turns out her mother left behind a large amount of debt now itās all Arlenneās responsibility. To survive, she starts working at a small cafĆ© near her house.
Despite everything, Arlenne keeps trying to study whenever she can. But pushing herself too hard takes a toll on her body, she develops severe anemia. The stress piles up, and eventually, she falls into deep depression⦠to the point where she considers ending her own life.
Just as sheās about to do it, a man suddenly appears beside her and cuts the rope from her neck.
āYou canāt do this,ā he says. āYouāre the one chosen to save us.ā
Shocked and confused, Arlenne reacts on instinct and punches him. But something strange happens, white wings suddenly appear from his back.
āWhy did you hit me?ā the man asks.
Overwhelmed with fear and confusion, Arlenne faints.
Five hours later, she wakes up, thinking it was all just a dream.
But the man is still there, sitting beside her, smiling.
āHello,ā he says. āMy name is Liam. Iām a guardian angel.ā
He explains that his mission is to find āthe chosen oneā written in their sacred book, and that person is Arlenne. He tells her she must come with him to save their world.
Still confused and hesitant, Arlenne doesnāt respond.
Noticing her doubt, Liam adds,
āMaybe⦠you could even save your mother.ā
Arlenneās eyes widen.
āReally?! My mom can come back?!ā
āā¦Yes,ā Liam answers, uncertain.
Thatās enough for her.
āFine. Iāll do it. Iāll save your world as long as my mom comes back. Iāll do anything.ā
Liam knows heās making a promise he might not be able to keep⦠but itās the only way sheāll come.
āLetās go,ā he says.
They travel into a dense forest, where a hidden portal lies.
Without hesitation, they step through it.
On the other side, Arlenne finds herself in a breathtaking world called "Terre Sainte", a blessed land filled with beauty. The architecture resembles ancient Rome, and even the people dress in similar styles.
She stares in awe, especially when she sees a Pegasus flying across the sky.
āThis is our world,ā Liam says. āOr⦠it was peaceful, before the Diablos attacked.ā
Arlenne lowers her gaze.
āHow am I supposed to save a world like this? I canāt even fix my own problemsā¦ā
Liam shakes his head.
āYou do have power. Itās just sealed.ā
She let out a small, disbelieving laugh.
āSealed? That doesnāt make any sense.ā
Liam hesitated for a moment, then said more carefully,
āā¦Youāre not like most people.ā
Arlenne immediately shook her head.
āYeah, no. Iām pretty sure I am.ā
Liam sighed softly.
āYour mom⦠sheās not just an ordinary human.ā
Arlenne scoffed.
āOkay, now youāre just making stuff up.ā
āShe came from Terre Sainte,ā Liam continued, still calm. āShe chose to live as a human.ā
Arlenne crossed her arms, clearly unconvinced.
āRight. And Iām supposed to just believe that?ā
Liam didnāt push her.
āā¦You donāt have to. Youāll understand eventually.ā
To unlock her power, they seek help from a powerful sorcerer named Kai who surprisingly looks very young, despite being over 4,500 years old.
Kai immediately begins the ritual.
As he chants in an unknown language, Arlenne feels intense pain in her chest. Her body trembles, her vision blurs, and she collapses.
She wakes up eight hours later.
Outside, she finds Liam training with Kai. As Liam spreads his wings, Arlenne canāt help but stare.
āTheyāre⦠beautiful,ā she whispers.
Liam quickly turned away, pretending to focus on his training, but the faint redness on his cheeks gave him away. He wasnāt used to compliments, especially not from her.
For someone who had faced countless battles without fear, this⦠was something he didnāt quite know how to handle.
Kai, watching from the side, let out a quiet chuckle. He didnāt say anything but the look in his eyes made it obvious.
Young feelings were always the most transparent.
After training, Kai tells Arlenne sheās ready. Strong. Gifted. The chosen one.
But before they can celebrate, the sky suddenly darkens.
Kai steps outside and freezes.
Standing there is Hellion, the leader of the Diablos.
āItās been a long time, Kaiā¦ā Hellion said, his voice calm yet filled with mockery.
Kaiās expression hardened instantly.
āHellion⦠so you finally show yourself.ā
Hellion let out a low laugh.
āDid you really think you could protect this world forever?ā
Kai clenched his fists, magic beginning to gather around him.
āEven if it costs my life⦠I will stop you.ā
Hellion smirked.
āYou couldnāt stop me before. What makes you think you can now?ā
Without warning, a brutal battle begins. Despite his strength, Kai is overwhelmed. Mortally wounded, he sends a telepathic message to Arlenne and Liam;
āRun⦠heās too strongā¦ā
But itās too late.
Hellion kills him.
Liam and Arlenne arrive moments after.
Kai is gone.
Liam breaks down, crying. Arlenne hugs him, trying to comfort him, even though sheās shaking herself.
Then Hellion appears.
The sky darkened unnaturally as Hellion stepped forward, his presence alone enough to suffocate the air around them.
"You must be the chosen one,ā he says, smirking at Arlenne.
Liam tightened his grip on his sword, stepping slightly in front of Arlenne.
āStay behind me.ā
Arlenne immediately shook her head, summoning her spear.
āNo. We do this together.ā
Hellion let out a low, amused laugh.
āHow touching. Two fragile beings standing against me⦠do you really think that will change anything?ā
Liamās wings spread wide, glowing faintly.
āWe donāt need to change everything.ā
His voice was calm but firm.
āWe just need to stop you.ā
Without another word,
they attacked.
The clash was instant.
Arlenne lunged forward, her spear cutting through the air with surprising force. Liam followed right after, striking from the side with precise, calculated movements.
Hellion blocked both attacks effortlessly.
āToo slow.ā
With a single motion, he pushed them back.
Arlenne slid across the ground, barely managing to steady herself.
Liam moved again faster this time.
Steel clashed against dark energy as he aimed directly for Hellionās chest.
Hellion smirked.
āBetter.ā
He caught Liamās blade with one hand, and crushed the force behind it.
Liamās eyes widened slightly. in that brief moment
āLiam, move!ā Arlenne shouted.
She charged in, driving her spear toward Hellionās heart.
The impact, finally
made contact, A shallow wound.
Hellion looked down⦠then laughed.
āSo this is the chosen one?ā
Before Arlenne could react,
a blast of dark energy hit her directly.
Her body was thrown back violently, crashing into the ground.
āArlenne!!ā
Liamās voice broke.
He rushed to her side, dropping to his knees.
āHey, hey, stay with me"
No response, her breathing was weak.
Too weak.
Slowly, Liam stood up.
The air around him changed.
His wings flared wider, glowing brighter than before.
When he turned back to Hellion, his expression was no longer calm.
It was cold.
āDon't you ever dare touch her again!!"
Hellion tilted his head slightly.
āAnd what exactly are you going to do⦠alone?ā
Liam didnāt answer, he just moved.
This time, he was faster.
Way more faster than before.
Every strike was sharper, heavier, more desperate.
Steel met darkness again and again, sparks and shadows tearing through the battlefield.
Hellion narrowed his eyes.
āNow this⦠is interesting.ā
Liam didnāt stop.
Didnāt hesitate, didnāt hold back.
Even when Hellionās attacks began to land cuts across his arm
blood at the corner of his lips, he kept going.
Because behind him, she was still there.
Unmoving.
āYouāre burning yourself out,ā Hellion said, almost amused.
āIn this situation, youāll die before you even touch me.ā
Liam finally spoke, his voice low.
āThen Iāll end this.ā
He lunged again, taking a direct hit to get closer
his blade slicing across Hellionās side.
A deeper wound this time.
Hellionās smile faded slightly.
āā¦So you are willing to die.ā
Liamās grip tightened.
For a moment, his gaze flickered.
Back to Arlenne,
Lying there.
Silent.
āā¦You donāt get it,ā he said quietly.
Then louder "Iām not fighting to win.ā
Hellion frowned slightly.
āIām fightingā
Liamās wings flared with blinding light
āto protect her.ā
Hellion attacked.
Dark energy surged forward unstoppable
aimed straight past Liam, toward Arlenne.
Liam saw it.
And without hesitation, he moved.
He stepped in front of her.
Pulled her into his arms.
And took the hit, the impact tore through him.
Light shattered,
Silence fell.
Arlenne fights with everything she has but sheās no match. Sheās struck down, lying helpless on the ground.
As her vision fades, she sees her mother.
āYou must protect this world,ā her mother says softly. āItās your world too.ā
She gives Arlenne a sacred ring one that can purify the Diablos.
As her mother held her, Arlenne felt something unfamiliar, warm, radiant, almost otherworldly. There was something different about her⦠something she had never noticed before.
āI wasnāt always from your world,ā her mother said softly. āI was born in Terre Sainte⦠just like you.ā
āYou carry more than just your own fate,ā her mother continued. āYou carry mine⦠and the power of this world within you.ā
Arlenne awakens stronger than before.
But Liam is already on the brink of death.
As Hellion prepares another attack, Liam shields Arlenne with his body.
āWhy would you do that?!ā she cries.
āIf youāre casting a spell⦠the ring wonāt protect you,ā he says weakly.
In that moment, the ring glows.
The āsacrificeā needed to defeat Hellion⦠isnāt Arlenne.
Itās Liam.
His body fades into glowing particles.
āIf thereās another life⦠I want to meet you again,ā he whispers. āNot like this⦠just as someone who can stay by your side.ā
Arlenne breaks down, screaming, begging him not to go.
But heās gone.
With tears streaming down her face, Arlenne stands.
She seals Hellionās power and drives her spear straight through his heart.
This time it works.
Hellion is destroyed.
After the battle, Arlenne is honored as a hero in Terre Sainte.
They offer her leadership but she refuses, She chooses to return to her world.
To live a normal life.
And for the first time in a long time,
To heal.
Though she still remembers Liam, but she finally lets go.
Arlenne smiles again.
