Tales from the Liberry

Today at the library a little 10 year old white girl was mocking a 5 year old black boy for saying “Liberry” and she kept trying to correct him and make him say “Library”

Instead of trying to tell a 10 year old that correcting grammar is both classist and racist, I kind of just said “He’s right, it’s liberry.”

The boy smiled at me, and the girl argued saying “No, it’s library!”

And I just looked at her and said “Excuse me, are you arguing with me, the Liberrian, over what my job is? I got my degree in liberry science,”

Probably not the best way to handle the situation. But watching that five year old smile when I came over was literally the best.

Today's Walking Photos: On this day after Thanksgiving, I am thankful for…Fairyland. Top photo shows a new feature, or new to me at least – under “Ye ol’ Fairy Liberry,” a sort of…mystery box? I was not feeling brave enough to try that lid and check the contents. Please let me know your thoughts on whether I should do so on my next visit.

And then just a couple other items I hadn’t noticed before: a little Halloween-themed house, and of course some happy bears cavorting on the Eiffel Tower. (I’m not a bit surprised that the bears are reminiscent of the ones you see in certain Grateful Dead-themed artwork...)

It would appear Fairyland is definitely not closed for the season.
