What was your favorite part about Italy?

Was there any scenes in your fic that you struggled to write or that took forever to edit?

I wrote about this awhile ago here, but I really struggled with writing Rodolphus as a character at the very beginning of BM. I basically didn't have any idea of who he was, and without an angle in, I was just very apathetic. I didn't care and it was boring. Then when I figured out a way "in" for his character (that he was really unhappy in his marriage) I was able to start to care...fleshing out the DEs in general ended up being fun, because I could write totally petty bitches (with a fun personal history.)

I remember that the chapter where Sirius and Colette had their first "date" took me literally ten hours to edit because it was so absurdly long. Like, in hindsight: 25k words for a single chapter of anything is excessive. Talk about self-indulgent. And there were a ton of typos in it (and probably still are, if I cared to revisit.)

I remember the Christmas Eve at the Potters chapter was hard to write because I originally envisioned it as much more elaborate, with more stuff with Peter directly IDing Colette (Or maybe Colette recognized Peter from seeing him hanging around the Malfoys?) and there was going to be more material with the Order supporting cast etc. But by that point I was pretty burnt out of writing the expansive world-building 'lets flesh out my particular perception of the HP universe' aspect of the story, so I ended up cutting it to the bare essentials.

Anything to do with the espionage/mystery part of the story was hard for me to write because I was always having to remind myself of who learned what when and whether the audience knew that, could infer it, and whether the characters themselves needed to learn it.

Hey Izzy! Just wanted to say I've read BSDS and you've completely ruined Sirius for me... For the past few weeks I've been looking and looking for something similar to your Sirius (and the Black family) characterization and NOTHING scratches the itch! Tsk tsk. What am I supposed to read now? (Do you perchance, have any recommendations?)

Not sure if you've mentioned this before - but are there any plans for a third installment? 🥹 It feels like there's more to Orion and Regulus's story... not to mention Sirius went from bachelor to engaged (to a girl his mother approves of, gasp!) within A WEEK. That's actually crazy, and the fact that their relationship never felt too rushed to me should feel even crazier XD and I'm so looking forward to reading more about Sirius and Colette being newly engaged (and everyone's reactions!), not to mention what sort of schemes Walburga will be up to next (considering all of the men in her family have been harmed by Voldie, imagine if she ended up being the key to ending the war early - hell hath no fury like a mother/wife scorned😂)

I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I set out to write my own spin on the characters and dynamics because I never liked the popular fanon version of them...not so much because it wasn't plausible, but because it wasn't personally interesting to me.

I'm also a little older than most people left in the fandom and I think I'd grown out of what I would consider the adolescent concerns of fic...namely as a form of expressing frustration, angst, etc. This probably sounds extremely condescending, and I don't mean it this way—I do think teenagers write to feel understood. Fanfic is an emotional outlet for the bulk of the very young people writing it. Which is fine, but I'm a grown woman in her thirties, and I don't have much interest in reading that. I was interested in telling a story that was more about an adolescent coming to understanding, which is reflective of my adult experience. So that's a lot of what inspired it (along with two decades of HP ideas that had been floating around in my head from reading the books when they were actually coming out.) I wouldn't have been able to write this story as a teen, I'm sure.

As to a threequel...I did have plans for one that I still bop about in my head, but I'm not sure I'll have time to write it. I'm definitely committed to finishing the epilogue, and I might share some ideas for the third one, but I'm really looking to move forward with my original writing career. I think it's interesting that you think Regulus and Orion have incomplete stories, because I definitely thought especially with the latter that he had a complete arc. I feel like Sirius and Bella was one of the major unresolved threads, to be honest...and of course cute Blackcourt stuff, the fallout of everything with Peter, etc. I have actually written some of that stuff longhand, so who knows...?
