Vampire Hunter D Holiday Week

Day one - Decorating

The end of the year had come, meaning it was time to decorate for the holiday season. D hadn’t participated in the holidays since he was a child when his mother was alive, and he was grateful to be doing this year with your family. You both had been together for some time but he typically wasn't around for the holidays to enjoy it with you. You wanted him to be a part of your family, however that best looked for you, but he had a job to do which kept him away for large amounts of time. He did his best to be with you as much as possible but this year he wanted to make sure he spent the holiday with you all. You’ve spoken with him before that you wanted to spend the whole month together because the holiday wasn't just about one day. Getting together with everyone from your extended family to see each other and catch up was the highlight every year. The family would trickle in over the course of a few weeks and stay over until the 1st day of the new year. Anyone who showed up the first week, had to help make the house look presentable. 

 You managed to get your broody love to help with so much around the house. This man was outside by putting up lights, helping make wreaths, and had chopped down a huge tree for the family. Making the entry way look welcoming was his favorite though. He didn't have to say it but you could see the effort he was putting in to make it look eye-catching. He wondered, "Why do you all celebrate like this?"

"It's just a tradition we've been doing for generations. To be perfectly honest I don't know the details of why. I just like being around my family."  When he’s finished, you take his hand and lead him to the living room where your parents are. They have arts and crafts set up to make little ornaments for the tree. Every year, you all would make a new ornament to add to the collection. Once they were done you would write your name on it, and how old you were. You hand him a plain ornament to doodle on. For a little while he didn't do anything because he had no clue what he wanted this little thing to look like. He eventually painted the base the color of your eyes with a bunch of little hearts and stars. Even though you thought it was the sweetest thing, you had to restrain yourself from teasing him a little bit. You didn't want to make him feel self conscious about it by accident. Then your parents made it awkward as hell by mushing over how sweet it was. "You know, you guys can just not talk sometimes." He remarked in a somber tone, "You don't like it?" In a panic, you complimented his ornament profusely.  You then realized he was just pulling your leg. When everyone finished their ornament, they went onto the tree as always and of course D’s went next to yours.

Vampire Hunter D Holiday Week Day Five: Mistletoe

The house is full with guests, family from afar and friends who had the time to just spend you all. Mostly a good time this year, more laughs than arguments, as it should be. You're happy that the noise flooding your ears is all good chatter and music. The fire place was burning in the main family room with the smell of marshmallows being burned and the decorated white spruce mixing together.

Being part of the hosting family, you were on the end of your most of the time, anxious something might go wrong or if someone needed something. Let's not forget the few kids running around with far too much energy for you to keep up with. There was a moment that your brain relaxed itself then you remembered to check on your newest guest. Where was D?, you wondered. He was the new person so he was swarmed by people at for short while. Then you realized there were 2 kids you hadn't seen for a little while too. Uh-oh, I hope he isn't getting harassed by the kids. You went off in search of them, They're probably bugging to high hell to be picked up or something.

You could hear the kiddos laughing in the next room and asking a bunch of silly questions; favorite color, favorite food, the coolest thing you've killed. The one being interrogated certainly had to be D. "BOO!" You startled the little ones and D of course had no reaction. "What are y'all doing in here?" One of the little kids was holding a giant marshmallow in their hand, "We were trying to inspect your boyfriend! Make sure he's good enough for you."

"Um... that's not necessary but thank you, I guess? But what's the marshmallow for?"

With the biggest smile your little cousin says, "To test his evilness, if he eats it and dies, it wasn't meant to be!" D didn't mind entertaining kids but it was clear he had reached his limit. The look on his face when he looked at you, he clearly needed saving from your little protectors. You assured them that he didn't need to be tested for anything, especially not with hot, sticky marshmallows in little baby hands. You managed to send one of them off back to join everyone else but one of them really wanted to walk D back.

Just before entering the family room, the little one made you not enter with them. They stopped with D in the entry way to the family room, you're little cousin started to put on a performance, "Oh look D we are under the mistletoe! We have to kiss now!!" They began to bat their eyes at him, it's usually how they got away with being spoiled by the family. As cute as they were, D was immune to it, he respected the effort though.

You tried to deter them, "Well he doesn't have too. You can ask nicely though."

Your cousin let out a sigh then asked in their most respectfully voice, "Can I have a kiss please?"

He knelt down to be at eye level with them. With his finger, he poked their forehead, "Mwah..."

"That doesn't count!" They pouted.

He replied, "It certainly does." They went off to go whine to their parents about it.

"Sorry you got trapped by them, love. At least you know they aren't scared of you or anything so that's nice."

"It wasn't too terrible. They both were still pretty behaved I think." D stood back up but leaned in towards you. He kissed you on the lips, "Got you."

NGL, I think of D just craving attention because of what he goes through. He'll have one of those days where he's just like, "Wow, I wish I had someone to call me baby and cuddle right now."
