The Lonely Empress

Here's the original poem I wrote today! Tell me what you guys think :)

TW: violence mention, blood mention, gore mention, death, bone mention, loneliness

I am the lonely empress who sits atop her throne made of dark obsidian studded with ivory bone

Welcome to my kingdom young traveler hear my words so wise Listen to my story and learn of the demise

of the thousand innocent who died by bloodied blade understand they meant not to make the meadow a sorrowful grave

Know the ten thousand who fought for freedom and for truth Understand though they did not that their ways had been uncouth

The flowers are headstones and the birds chirp no more The earth is still stained red from the violence and gore

When the sun had set on the final day of war the broken bricks settled and this was a kingdom no more

See me young traveler for I am all that's left Watch my crown shine the final symbol of the rest

I am the last empress who sits here all alone on a throne of dark obsidian studded with my dead friends' bones

for anyone who wants to get better at worldbuilding (and character/plot development), I definitely recommend looking at Brian Sanderson's lectures

the worldbuilding videos are just over an hour long and are super easy to follow (provided you pause to jot down a note/important point)

in the morning, I will show you guys the two pages or worldbuilding/lore that I made

context:

because I am overly ambitious and because it was an idea that came to me at 3am (like all great ideas do) I decided to make a binder/folder/manual of all of the stuff about my story. Character files, maps, fashion, culture, history, plot notes, old drafts. everything.

I completed two pages of the fashion section for one of the kingdoms. Will be posting tomorrow so stay tuned!!

okay. Her name is Ivy Raloren. her parents were incredibly poor but something happened (again, details haven't yet been ironed out) but she is left abandoned/orphaned on the streets of the kingdom. She bounces from orphanage to orphanage (oftentimes, the orphanages are illegal and are disbanded by the government. aka zira's mom). but one winter day when she was ten, she passes out from malnutrition. a girl wakes her up. the girl and her twin brother are also orphans but they are part the well-known rebel group that also takes in children

so, Ivy is brought back by the twins (Lilith and Derryn) to the base where she is taken care of. They grow up together.

(btw, she and zira are the same age.)

when she is seventeen, she is deployed on one of the riskier missions that the rebels are carrying out. it's a mission to raid the palace and basically cause chaos so the public looses faith in their leader. but everything goes wrong and many people are captured.

including ivy and the twins

but because zira is incredibly capable and a very deadly fighter, she is the one doing a lot of the capturing. she ends up running into ivy and capturing her as well, but not before wounding her in ways that will leave nasty scars

but, because of things that happen later, ivy and zira talk more.

ivy is a bisexual queen who isn't afraid to show affection

okay so her name is Zira Sevaan and she is second in line to the throne. The second child of the queen and younger sibling to her sister.

her mother absolutely hates her (for a very complicated reason) but can't publicly show that because it would ruin the royal family's reputation. so, she forced Zira to start intensive military training at age eleven.

she may not have directly physically abused her daughter, but certainly set her up for it. (that woman can go burn in hell tbh) the mother (also the queen) is also super manipulative in the form of gaslighting.

because of everything zira is also super manipulative (only to get what she needs, tho) and cold-hearted. she is an incredibly good fighter and is the general of the military. for the first three years, her main motivator to survive was simply to spite her mother

she doesn't have great relationships with anyone in her family. she was really close with her father, but he died/was killed (haven't fully ironed out details) when she was five.

generally evil, but in the sense of Draco Malfoy, for example. You hate her but love her at the same time.

she is a raging lesbian but is currently too focused on how to become queen in place of her sister to care about her past tragic love life.

what I have done today:

made a lore board (literally sitting on my floor right now) that looks like the detective boards with the yarn and cards and stuff

sat down and did some writing for a while

made some character files

found better images for my characters

reviewed the old drafts

currently watching Brian Sanderson's world building lectures-
