Decided to write some history for Vannevar and his people!
@popiaswhitesuit and @ad-inferii pardon the longevity of the post but I tried not making it entirely vannevar, but i thought you both would like to learn more about the library birds lmao. It’s all over the place imo since i didnt know what people would like to know.
ABOUT THE RACE
Better known by their name, Zenduri, they are tall, agile creatures that reside in the Great Rock north of the human base. It’s rather large and difficult to get to as it requires a lot of climbing and not dying by the violent wildlife that are just Earth animals but 2000% worse and bigger. The Great Rock is also difficult to enter as you have to climb up into the entrance. The Zenduri also live extremely long, ranging to a thousand years if left unbothered.
THE PEOPLE
Each Zendurian wear different variations of clothing, most akin to the clothing from the clothing in James Cameron’s Avatar. They run in a similar system that is based around survival, so everything they do is to keep their civilization afloat. Children are few and far between due to the difficulty in childbirth as either the mother will die or the baby will, usually the latter.
They all wear masks on occasions, each of different kinds of animals. For example, Vannevar wears a ram skull with four horns, two that stretch above his head, and two that curl against his jaw.
Depending on status, or whether you are a warrior or not, they may have jewelry on their tails or ears, but anything more would be a challenge to Vannevar.
LANGUAGE
They understand almost any language, but nothing they can speak fluently. Aside from chitters and chirps, they fluently speak the human language of Old Norse, or as similar as it could get. Some words are different, and other words mean something else. The language is mostly spoken when they are not hunting as it is more efficient to chitter than speak.
THE RELIGION
Zenduri religion is entirely monotheistic, following the Goddess Shebsheba. Their stories detail her as being their mother, their most sacred leader. There is a tree within Great Rock, one that resembles a cherry blossom, that is far bigger than anything else. It practically rises high above the rock itself making it easy to see from miles away. It is the sacred tree of Shebsheba, a declaration of her love towards her children. The tree is a source of life for them, as well as a source of hope. Without it, they are nothing.
To be mated before Shebsheba means a petal has fallen at the time of the union, or that Shebsheba has gifted you someone worthy of your love.
FAMILY LIFE/DAILY LIFE
Zenduri families are similar to human families in the sense that there are usually two parents and a child. It’s very rare for a same sex family, as surviving is what’s keeping these people from going extinct, but for some Zenduri people, they adopt a polyamorous behavior allowing for them to indulge in their true nature while allowing their people to remain only at endangered and not extinct.
Most warriors are men, solely for their quick and agile behavior, but the women are the brute force with their quick merciless kills when it comes to food and enemies. Some female warriors are the protectors of Chief Overseer Vannevar, who does nothing but hunt and fight despite better judgment.
Daily life is no different other than groups of Zenduri leaving every now and again to hunt. They eat meals together as a whole and not alone unless you are an outsider. Sometimes they are interrupted and attacked by the Ripke people who live off of the deaths of the Zenduri.
ABOUT THE MONARCHY
Vannevar is the only known leader of the Zenduri as far as knowledge goes and he is quite the character. He values his people over everything else and cares naught for the humans, especially her. He is not a strict man, but he is not overly kind. He expects some space and will get it whether you like it or not.
HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS
Vannevar isn’t too keen on humans going anywhere near Great Rock as they are treacherous, dangerous people who will destroy them. But that’s simply because he fell in love with one and lost his wife and unborn child over it forever.
Judith, a scientist, was the only human to ever grow so near to the Zenduri race. She had learned all there is to know about the race, and even their leader as well which resulted in a romantic relationship forming. After acting on those romantic feelings, Vannevar’s wife had announced that she was pregnant in a letter that also revealed that she had known of Vannevar’s dishonesty and adultery. She disappeared and was never seen again.
Because of this Vannevar’s relationship with the humans soured considerably and he banned the humans from entering. Especially Judith.
As time went on, it became increasingly clear that they needed help. A lot of it. So they turned to the humans and made a treaty announcing their cooperation of guns and brute force and agility.
