2/1/18 | 9:15 am- Woke up at 6 am, missed my 7 am kickboxing class, headed to the gym instead and grabbed breakfast. Now I need to write my daily to-do list. I have one class today at 12:30 and after, I’m spending the entire day at the library. (That was just so all over the place my b)
Libraries should all have free, accessible coffee or keurig machines. If bookstores like Barnes and Noble have cafes attached so if you buy a book you buy a coffee. places you can essentially get a book for free, you should also get a free coffee. I mean the argument can be made that it’s actually borrowing a book at a library as thats returned but you really only borrow coffee too as it’s going right through you one way or another.
One of my favourite places to study is the library at our university. I say “our library” when there are literally dozens. And there’s bound to be one near you too. Here is why you should study at a library, some library tips and my essentials.
The reasons I like going to the library are:
1. There are fewer distractions than at home.
2. People are checking up on you. Not literally, but you’re not going to go on Facebook when the person next to you is struggling with a paper, are you?
3. It’s quiet - if it isn’t see tips below.
4. The books, if you need them, are right there.
5. There’s space to study with your friends. You can motivate each other and chat during coffee breaks.
Okay, sound heavenly right? But there are ways to make it even better.
My library tips:
1. If you’re library is quite busy or not as quiet as mine, consider taking those squishy ear plug things with you. Work a treat to block out noise. Alternatively, listen to some music without lyrics, or, and i love this, listen to the Hogwarts library.
2. Try and get a seat with as much natural light as possible. Your eyes and brain will thank you for it, and you’re less likely to feel drowsy.
3. Don’t face the room sitting at a wall, where no one will see when you’re procrastinating. Place yourself in full sight of everyone else to make sure you stay focused. It’s called group pressure.
4. Finally, take breaks! Stand up, move about, fill your water bottle and maybe nibble on a snack. You’re not a machine, give your mind a break.
My library essentials:
1. Obviously whatever you need to study or get your work done. For me this includes laptop, pencil case, paper, and any books I might need.
2. Water bottle. Stay hydrated guys!
3. Library Card / Student ID. My tip is to have it with you wherever you go.
4. Change for coffee or tea. If there isn’t a coffee machine in your library, or you want to save your pennies, consider taking it from home in a thermos cup.
5. Earphones, in case I want to listen to some music or watch a video, because those can honestly be so helpful for studying.
6. Tissues. In case you get snotty. Same goes for tampons and stuff, you never know. And it’s always nice to be the friend that shares.
7. PLANNER. I could honestly not live without this. Best thing ever. Plan your life guys, it makes thing so much easier.
8. Your phone, but make sure it doesn’t distract you. I like to have it with me in case of emergencies, but maybe I’m just paranoid. It’s also handy if you want to take a break with your friend and they’re sitting on the other side of the room.
That’s it, I know it’s crazy long but I hope this post helped you guys out :) xx
